Star Wars and more, conducted by the composer himself
Great value 2CD set! I bought it because, like everyone else, I’m a major fan of John Williams’ Star Wars score. It’s great to hear the composer conducting his own music here. It's not the original soundtrack but it still sounds great, has all the music I was looking for, and let's face it, who can be more authoritative than the composer himself? Actually I can't tell the difference between this and the original anyway, and I've got both. They’ve also added lots of other “spacey” music from TV shows and other films – Close Encounters, E.T, even the original Star Trek music. Then at the end there’s The Planets by Holst, also conducted by John Williams - amazing to think that it was written 100 years ago really, it's so fresh and modern. In fact you start to hear the things which influenced and inspired some John Williams himself. Clever. Very happy to recommend..

A more than correct interpretation with a good sound, conducted by composer of many of their tracks.
A 2 CD selection of recordings by John Williams conducting the Boston Pops Orchestra. It mainly includes recordings from 1980 and 1983, that were digital recordings under Philips label. The original CD from June 1980 was "Pops in Space" [39:52], and the one from June 1983 was "Out Of This World" [44:28]. The duration of the new discs are [59:15] and [69:38].In this selection two tracks from "Pops in Space" are missed: the "March" and the "Love Theme" from "Superman". And you miss nothing from "Out Of This World" (all whose tracks are presented here). On the second part of the second CD, there is the rendition of John Williams of a classical work: "The Planets", suite composed between 1914 and 1916 by english composer Gustav Holst. A more than correct interpretation with a good sound, conducted by the same person who was inspired by the first movement of this suite ("Mars, the Bringer of War") to compose the final battle of Star Wars - A New Hope. This recording of June 1986 was previously released by Philips in 1987.A few years later, the pair Boston Pops - John Williams signed with Sony Classical, but that is a different story.
