Red Card by Carrie Aarons: Review by All4Books
My ratings:Overall Rating: 5 StarsWriting Style: 5 stars! Carrie is witty, sarcastic, and has some seriously sexy characters. Her style is filled with great laughs and punchlines that will have you giggling the whole time... except when you're crying. Or you'll do both. A lot.Descriptions/Scenery/Setting: 4.5 stars- I loved Carrie's descriptions, but I would have loved to see just a little more about London sprinkled in there! It's a fascinating place, and I think some readers would have preferred to have a little more writing to paint that picture in their head. This little tidbit didn't really take away from Red Card, because of how well Carrie picked up with settings and the plot in other areas of the book.Plot/Story Line: 5 stars! At first, I thought I had some "page one" characters on my hands, and had them figured out. I was, in fact, incorrect! This book, while having hilarious areas, and original characters and jokes, also had a deeper plot running through, speaking of things such as suicide. That made me really fall for the story as I watched these characters deal with something very, very real. There were also whispers of a borderline abusive relationship between the heroine and her ex (mainly isolation and some manipulation.)Genre: Romance (Sports)Maturity Rating: I would recommend this stayed open for audiences 18+, due to sexuality, language, and references to the suicide of a character. (Don't worry, none of the main characters die!)Would I recommend this book? Without a doubt! I loved the sarcasm, wit, and passion in this book, along with the seriousness of other areas of the book. It wasn't overtaken by the light hearted areas, nor the dark, and had the perfect amount of angst that spiced up the book. What is unique about this book? There are so many things to love about this book. Endearing characters, wonderful settings, and an awesome plot. It's a fun, sexy, and fresh read that would definitely catch your attention!Leah is different in the fact that she's actually extremely independent, and was often upfront with Killian in explaining that she came to find herself, and make her own way. I enjoyed that fact that despite this, the romance was still hot and fun, and even a little more endearing, because our heroine didn't wilt away, but instead kept going, and actually changed through the book.Along with this, we watched Killian have his own changes, especially in learning to trust, and be open with his struggles and fears. The characters, in the end, found that their other half needed certain aspects of their dealings with stress and new situations needed change, and went through with it. They were actually trying, not just expecting one to fall at the other's feet, as we so often see."His lips brushed my ear. “I’m going to go so slow that by the third time you come, you’ll be shaking like a leaf under me. You won’t be able to speak. The world will cease to exist, because your body will be in a different dimension.” And that’s exactly what he did to me."Killian grew a pair, and fought back for Leah.Leah found her inner strength, and walked out when she knew that how Killian had begun treating her was not okay. No abuse, no waffling, just a straight, head-on view. I loved that. I cannot wait to see more from Carrie in the future, and, hopefully, more from these characters and this world.I hope you choose to enjoy this witty, hilariously endearing read, and follow the lives of Killian Ramsey and Leah Watson. you won't be disappointed!** I hope you don't mind how short this is; I have been trying to forgo spoilers!

The Bad Boy of Britain's Football versus the new PR assistant
Leah Watson is a young woman on a mission to get her life back on track after a five year relationship ends. She's on a journey of self-discovery and is determined to be a strong independent woman. So when a chance to study abroad and work as an intern at a world famous public relations firm comes her way she jumps on the opportunity for a fresh start. What she wasn't planning on was Killian Ramsey. Killian is the bad boy superstar of the British Football (Soccer) world. He's an arrogant, sexy and a total public relations nightmare all rolled up in one. This is a story with a lot of hot sexy scenes as these two characters personalities clash. Both characters have a lot of emotional baggage to figure out and the character development/growth is really well described. This book is well written with interesting characters and a good storyline/plot.There were a few discrepancies in the character descriptions like in one chapter her eyes are described as emerald green and then later on as olive green but eyes do change shades of colors depending on clothes, moods, etc so it wasn't a huge deal for me.

*** I LOVE soccer. It's my favorite sport to watch
***I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.***I LOVE soccer. It's my favorite sport to watch. Every 4 years when the World Cup comes around it is like Christmas for a month. So I love when an author writes a book about soccer players. But then make that soccer player a broody Alpha with a hot British accent and I am sold.Leah is starting over. She thought the she would be spending the rest of her life as the wife of a pro (American) football player, but that is not the case. After being dumped, she hops on a place to London where she will spend the semester working for celebrity PR firm. Within minutes of arriving she is thrust into a movie premiere where she becomes Killian's handler. Talk about being thrown into the deep end of a shark infested pool.Killian Ramsey is good looking and an amazing football (soccer) player, but he is also a big jerk. When he meets Leah, he immediately pisses her off and turns her on without even trying. The guy is that good. He is intrigued by Leah so he makes sure that she will spend her internship exclusively working for him. I like to call that a power play. Leah didn't have a choice and while I knew that she would be able to handle herself, I also knew that it was going to be a very interesting ride.Killian finds Leah to be quite refreshing. She is basically the opposite of every woman he has ever been involved with and at first he thinks that her personality is an act. It doesn't take long for him to discover that isn't the case and that makes him want her even more. Professionally the two of them work pretty well together. At first Leah is a bit out of her league, but she adapts very quickly and falls into the role quite easily. Personally, Killian and Leah try to fight their attraction to each other, but them getting together is inevitable. Then the problem becomes staying together. Killian is not happy when he finds out about Leah's past and he has yet to move on from the tragedy he suffered. They pretty much get in their own way over and over again, which I found to be frustrating because I could tell that they truly did love one another.Yes, Killian was super cranky and was used to getting his way, but Leah challenged him and made him feels things he thought he would never feel again. Very early in the book Killian plays tour guide as he shows Leah around London. They had a wonderful day together and I knew right away that that was the real Killian. The one the fans saw on the field and in the limelight was just a facade. He let Leah see the real him, but the past comes back to haunt him. These two go through a lot during the course of this book and I even had a moment when I thought "Uhhhhh.....are they going to get their HEA?"The first thing I did after I finished this book was recommend it to another soccer loving reader. Like I said earlier, we don't get too many books so I wanted to spread the word. I also went to the author's website to check out her other books since I had not read them and they are now on my TBR. I love when that happens.

Good, but could've used more proofreading
This was my first read from Aarons.I really liked it; however, it could've used another round of edits. Parent's that should've been spelled parents'. A character's last name spelled differently a few times. Low and behold spelled as low and behold. Whoa spelled as woah. These are just a few of the mistakes I noticed. But overall, I really enjoyed the storyline, the chemistry and progression of the characters, and the H's grand gesture. Though I didn't like the moments where he tried to sl*t shame her over false information written in the media. That was problematic for me, although it was the character being his a**hole self.Definitely recommended.

Oh the incorrect slang.....
I really like this book. Carrie Aarons, you really know how to right a lush contemporary novel! I fell in love with Killian straight away and Leah' s sassy attitude had me grinning throughout. One thing I would say, however, is that as a British person, it was very cringey at times due to the incorrect use of slang. For example, in the epilogue (which I loved) when Jillian says "Cheerio" as a way of greeting?! Cheerio means bye. This sort of ruined the moment for me..... I would redo.mend doing more research when it comes to British slang.I recommend this boom to anyone who has read the "Over the Fence" trilogy and anti e who loves a romantic and easy read.

Needs a massive proofread and edit
Seriously. I know that Amazon's Kindle makes it easy for people to self publish, but this is ridiculous. This book is littered with spelling errors, grammar mistakes, sentences that - frankly - make zero sense, and a whole bunch of bloopers, including factual inconsistencies that made me cringe. I normally put these kinds of purchases down as mistakes and move on, but this book actually has two of my favourite themes in it, football and the city of London. Which is why reading it just made me madder and madder at each error and I completely regretted spending my money on it.Here is an example: Tottenham is in the heart of North London, not an hour outside the city. This could be because the author is trying to keep things fictional, but really? A simple Google search could have told you where Tottenham is. Another one - she talks about people going to dinner at Earl's Corner, which is actually Earl's Court. I would have understood again as the author trying to fictionalise, but two pages later, the protagonists are leaving Earl's Court. Sigh!Did the author even proofread the book before she hit publish? It is not expensive to hire a copy editor (which, full disclosure, I am one). I wish Amazon offered returns of e-books because this one would be going straight back.
