title says it: great beginner's guide
I've inherited a lot of drawn thread work from my mother's mother and other female ancestors--the kind with lacey edgings created by drawing (withDRAWING) threads from the base fabric and then gathering them with a variety of stitches (hemstitches). I always wanted to try this myself, and this book is basically the only modern introduction to the craft. It has clear instructions and images, and includes some of the whitework stitches that go with drawn thread embroidery. Although there are a lot of stitches not covered, this is an excellent BEGINNER'S guide.

You couldn't want more
You couldn't want more in a book than this little number by Patricia Bage for clarity of method and technique, simple illustrations and nice projects to finish. You will get a true sampling of stitches including 10 in drawn thread alone, 12 in embroidery, how to bead and 4 really pretty samplers to incorporate and learn the techniques through and through. I love that she shows each of the 4 samplers in 2 different color schemes. This allows you to see the potential of personal design that so inspire as to sit right down and begin to stitch. She has included a comprehensive list of fabrics, threads and supplies with photographs of everything that are very close-up and detailed and leave nothing to guess at. You can try your hand at one type of stitching or become truly an expert by finishing one or more of the samplers. What a great find!------------------Update from June 2013:The publisher of this book, Search Press, has delightedly assembled a bunch of its other titles and put forth this offering:The Stitching Book: The All-You-Need-to-Know Guide to Surface StitchingIt contains maybe half the content of each of the 8 books which are all written by well-known expert embroiderers. This compendium complements the individual books well and provides you an excellent opportunity to expand and perfect your repertoire of techniques.

Great book for beginners!
I was surprise how detail and how pretty this book is. The picture makes it look dated and that is not the case. It is a perfect book for a beginner like me, all the pictures are in color, it explain what you need to do a great job and it has few samples that you can follow step by step.

I am very glad though to add this to my drawn thread library
I thought the book would cover more intricate stitches. I am very glad though to add this to my drawn thread library.

Beautiful Book
If you really want to learn this technique, this is the book for you. It is well written with beautiful diagrams and photographs throughout that teach the technique in simple step by step terms. I look at it over and over - puts me in the mood to get doing instead of just dreaming about it.

A most wanted book for needleworkers
This book is so much more than it seems. It's a treasure, the images are so neat and beautiful, widely displayed across the page. The tutorials are excellent! Step by step instructions with pictures and graphs...It has information on materials, important considerations before stitching, tutorials on the techniques, plus four beautiful projects shown in different color schemes and finishes... Best needlework book I own.
