Radioactivity indicator «SOEKS» 01M is intended to estimate the level of radioactivity and detect objects, foodstuffs, construction materials contaminated by radioactive elements. Radioactivity indicator evaluates radiation background on the amount of power of ionizing radiation (gamma and beta-particles) with taking into account X-rays. Advantages of Radioactivity indicator «SOEKS» 01M - Compact and lightweight - Modern design - Easy control - Bright, informative, color TFT display - Operation from the accumulator - Charging and power supply for continuous operation through port mini-usb - Sound warning - Measurement of ambient temperature - Numerical and graphical presentation

Inconsistent results and doesn't work in humidity
This product does not work in humid conditions.I spend a lot of time in the Southern part of New Jersey near the beach and it seems that this model doesn't like humidity at all. The numbers keep showing different results in the same place and the digits themselves are very hard to read in the sun. The menu is also weird and hard to navigate. The product did not work correctly near where I live, and I would venture a guess that this model would not work in any other area with high humidity. Overall just not very good.

Great value, good functionality
Pros: Has a color screen. Intuitive 3-button interface. Has adjustable "dangerous level" threshold. Large Geiger-Mueller tube, about as long as the whole device. Makes a "beep" sound in real time when particle detected. Averages out the detected level over several seconds. Very small package. Bought 2 of these, one for me one for parents.Cons: None so far. Maybe that it only has 3 languages to select.Other: will detect Beta and Gamma particles like a regular Geiger counter. Is not designed for Alpha particles.

Inexpensive but ultimately useless
Look, I really wanted to like this one: it looks nice and I was hoping it would be calibrated well enough to be somewhat useful. But this is just a toy that even for its low price is nowhere near what it claims to be.Pros: Visually it looks nice. Color LCD display. Shows descriptions right next to the readings. Mini USB connectionCons: Very poorly calibrated - the readings are all over the place. It was supposed to come with a test sample - it did not. Nonetheless, I tested it with a small piece of uranium ore that I know emits 1.8 microSiverts per hour within 1 inch from the source. After being placed RIGHT ON TOP of the ore for almost 2 minutes, Soeks was showing .06 uSv/h! That is the difference between your normal background radiation and the dental x-ray! After another 2 minutes the readings went up to 2.1 uSv/h, then back down to .o8 uSv/h. It was all over the place! I can accept some variations, but this is was just completely off. The battery ran out very quickly, after only a couple of tests.Basically, it failed to detect uranium ore while sitting right on top of it for over 2 minutes! And when it did, the readings were jumping up and down without any consistency.Soeks looks nice and does not cost a whole lot which is why I bought it, but at the very least I expected it to have some minimal consistency. This not even your average-grade instrument, but rather just a nice looking toy for someone who does not know any better.

Bummer on reliability of accurate measurment
I am unable to verify it's measuring accuracy. That's a bummer.

Generally good product and works well
Generally good product and works well. (Although, takes a couple of minutes to get the accurate reading) The only 2 small issues I had with this product 1) Once battery inserted, it defaults to German language - so it takes some guessing to change the display language. 2) Push-buttons are not labeled - leaving room for user input error. The UI could be more intuitive.

Does the job...
This is the cheapest dosimeter I have found. My main use for this is to alarm when I am in high radiation areas. After some brief testing, it does that job well. I can't comment on the accuracy of the unit, but relative levels of X-Radiation seem to be easily determined. For the price, I recommend this item. If you can spend more money (you need to spend double this price to get to the next level of quality) you should do so. Otherwise, this unit works fine...

Returned it and opted for another for half the price made in USA with mkre features and support.
Returned. There are others for less cost with more features not made in Russia.

SOEKS 01M Radiation Detector/Gieger Counter
This is a great accurate device to have for testing your own back yard for any increases in background radiation. Since Fukushima, I have been in the market for one of these, and this was the most affordable and developed by a Russian company. Works as advertised. In English and easy to use. Includes a sample of uranium ore for testing the device.
