What is the shelf life after its open?

As with mu PVC glues, I store it upside down. Seems to not dry out when doing that. Easier to open also.

I know this says rubber cement but is this good for car tires with patches? i mostly say people commenting about bike repairs.

Yes, it is in fact excellent radial tire patch cement, and if you have a roller type "stitcher" to roll the patch into the inner liner of the tire, it does a great job. I even used this stuff to repair some damage I accidentally did to the bead on a Goodyear Wrangler radial, and it worked great. I knocked a hunk of bead out by not paying close enough attention while using my old antique tire changer. I glued it back into place and left it overnight, next day it was good as new, and that tire runs today on my pickup. This is a most excellent rubber cement, from my own experiences anyway.

Does any one know how long it will last in storage?

The cans usually last a long time, I too have had mine for over a decade though mine had a metal cap with threads. I needed it the other day and thought it would be dried out, nope still very viscous, it just seemed like the level was lower than I remembered it? But the actual viscosity didn't change and it worked just fine.
