After reading other people's reviews, I decided that I would buy some kids play sand, but looks like I'm gonna needs at least 3 bags. So some are water and some sand. Either way it really does the job. My 6 year old came up with a great idea to help fill it with either sand or water. Get a small bottle like a 500ml coke one. Cut the bottom off and it can be used as a funnel. Best bit is, take the cap off and it screws in where u fill so u dont need to hold it.

Filling with sand was fiddly, but worth it in the end as they are extremely heavy and I expect the base to do the job. It’s annoying though, that the base didn’t come with any clips and yet each piece has two holes just waiting for a joining clip to slot in!??! (Anybody know where you can get the clips from???) Despite that oversight, I don’t expect the base to move, with each piece heavy enough to stop any other piece thinking of moving from doing so. Other than that, I would recommend this base if you don’t want your banana parasol blown away this summer!!

4 pieces arrived but one had a slight crack so leaked the water. Contacted them and they sent replacement straight away. Fab customer service goes along way, thank youWould certainly recommend buying these if you have banana parasol.

I filled these with water, they took a few watering cans easy enough to handle when full. The stopper is designed in the right place to allow maximum filling. We have had no leakage from the stoppers since filling. They easily hold down our cantilevered umbrella even in high winds. The plastic is pretty sturdy; our grandkids regularly jump all over them and they have survived without a mark.

Easy to fill with water and so far they are holding my parasol. Haven't been really tested in bad weather but we have had some breezy conditions.

I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to leak... quality control, poor materials? Who knows, I'll be returning and popping down to my local B&Q to buy an alternative.
