Learn to Spin Cotton Kit

I got this kit for two reasons. 1. I was gifted an amazon gift card for my birthday. (So, I was quite happy that the seller decided to put this on amazon.) 2. I wanted to add a tahkli support spindle to my fiber tool collection. It didn't come with a bowl, so I am using a pretty Japanese tea cup that my sister gave me. The cotton selection in this kit is very nice. Although, I had some trouble identifying which cotton was which. This was quickly cleared up after visiting the kit maker's website. They have photos of their supply. If you get this kit, be prepared to do some fiber prep on some of the cotton in this kit. Most people use cotton carders (brushes) for their fiber prep, and that can run you somewhere between $85-$120.Personally, I comb my cotton with a fine metal pet comb ($6-$9). It takes a lot of time, but it makes the fibers smooth and silky. I comb a wad of cotton, and then I pull the cotton off the comb, pinch it like a bow tie in the middle, and comb both ends. If any of the longer fibers get stuck to the comb, I just pull them off and recomb them bow tie style. I remove the short short fibers and little fuzzballs (neps) with my fingers as I go along. Rinse and repeat.
