Shakespeare's classic story of dark ambition, madness, and murder springs to life in a masterful new graphic novel by Gareth Hinds. Set against the moody backdrop of eleventh-century Scotland, Gareth Hindsโs captivating, richly illustrated interpretation takes readers into the claustrophobic mind of a man driven mad by ambition. An evil seed takes root in the mind of Macbeth, a general in the kingโs army, when three witches tell him he will one day be king. At the urging of his wife, he resolves to take the throne by the most direct path: a dagger in the heart of King Duncan. But โblood will have blood,โ and when others grow suspicious of his sudden rise to power, is Macbeth prepared to commit more murders to keep the crown? Review: Wonderful - Going to see Macbeth at the Guthrie theater in Minneapolis in a couple weeks. Got this to get a preview of the show. Really enjoyed the book. Great art, the dialog was accurate to the Bard. I look forward to his other books. Review: Great for English teachers!!! - I teach AP English literature and have been teaching "Macbeth" for years. Students always love it because it's full of the supernatural, sex, and murder, but helping them evaluate the text and get use to Shakespearean language is obviously a challenge. This graphic novel version of "Macbeth" is great because it keeps the original text, although pares it down a lot. I use it in addition to the original play for my AP students. For my ENG IV Honors students - who read British literature for the year - we just use this text when studying "Macbeth," and they really enjoyed it and understood the story. They are still exposed to the language of Shakespeare, but let's face it, the pictures help a lot. Artwork is amazing!

Makes Macbeth Interesting
As a teacher, I found Macbeth to be one of the more difficult Shakespeare plays to teach, as most students do not identify with the characters or the theme. Hinds did an excellent job translating Macbeth to a graphic novel so students can more easily understand the story and the characters. Sometimes, it's difficult to read a story with so many characters and names. When students have a face to connect to a character's name, it makes following the plot so much easier. I am also happy to report, unlike Hind's GN of Beowulf, there are no unclothed female body parts or sexually suggestive scenes as in The Odyssey GN, which makes teaching Macbeth with this GN much more classroom friendly. I highly recommend this GN.

Fabulous addition to my teaching library!
Perfect adaptation to use as a companion with my high school students. Language is very close to the original and the vivid drawings help the story spring off the page.

Brillian!
This Graphic Novel is by far the best one out there! It is nicely drawn and uses an abridged version of Shakespeare's own lines instead of a modern English translation. Although some words might be different, the author really shows his excellent knowledge of the tragedy, Shakespeare's time and the time of Macbeth. I simply love it and my students like it as well.

Excellent graphics and original Shakespeare text
I bought it for an IB student studying the play (you donโt say the name). Excellent, so much easier than just reading the unillustrated text.

An enjoyable read and invaluable teaching tool.
I have used this book to support my teaching of Macbeth in Year 5. The children love it and it has really supported and enhanced their understanding of the play. The illustrations are really vivid and detailed, as well as being easy to follow and interpret. I also love that the text, while abridged in places, is true to the original play and keeps Sheakspeare's rhythm, flow and timing as much as possible.
