It's A Magazine
Popular Photography is a magazine like any other. Some months it's features and articles are good; some months they're not. Helpful features on how to light earthworm portraits do NOT interest me but articles on using camera features that my camera has do interest me. Reviews of cameras, lenses and accessories must always be read critically because the reviewer's criteria may not be the same as mine.

$5 is no brainer!!
I've read PP for years and enjoy keeping up on new cameras. I don't mind ads and there's enough articles for me. The $5 price was the clincher. I can find most issues used at my libraries for 25-50 cents so $5 is all I will pay to subscribe just for the convince of receiving it monthly.

Worth a look for a cheap price
I've been a subscriber of Popular Photography off and on since the mid 90s. I enjoy it for its brief articles and the photos in the contests and articles. The content of the articles is often aimed more towards beginners to intermediate, but I sometimes find some interesting tidbits in them. The series on how a shot was done with a diagram included can be of some interest from a curiosity perspective, but I've found it of little practical use. The reviews of the gear can be handy, but can be dependent on if they are reviewing cameras/lenses from the brand you use (unless you are looking to switch). I do like some of the first looks at new gear coming out, particularly things that can be used with any camera system (like tripods and lighting). The magazine has seemed to shrink since I started subscribing, and has grown in its ads. It doesn't offer much meat these days, but it is a pretty cheap subscription. I have come and left subscriptions over the years, but there has been usually enough to bring me back, especially cheaply. It is definitely a worthwhile look for the price. I do miss the American Photo magazine that has folded into this one that offered more articles on the photos and photographers with a more artistic bent than the more gear heavy Popular Photography.

What's New and Trending in the world of Photography.
This Guy keeps me informed of whats new and the latest trending in photography. The same as getting the daily newspaper for me.Even the ads that add the prices, keep me informed some way If I need or want any thing...... even through on line is better to buy anything I might need but Popular Photography helps some way. ( Places to buy, trade, sell.) some what like News you can Use. It Just adds a little more info for my photography, every month,... always something to learn and to try out with my camera. Most of the time there is always something I like in the pages to read.I had it before (used to get it and missed it) and I have it now again. Thanks Guys.

Beginner? Not good. Advanced user - probably fine.
This magazine has not been what I had expected. If you are a beginner to photography, this isn't the one for you. The lingo in the reviews, articles, picture descriptions isn't at all helpful if you don't understand f-stops, depth of field, lighting techniques, etc. yet. I have experience beyond beginner, but am still learning and was hoping to be able to pick up tips and insight from this magazine. However, there is evidently way too much that I don't know yet because all I could do with this was read it "for the pictures". And the amount of pictures is less than I expected. If all you're looking for are reviews for the latest gear and you can talk the talk, you may still enjoy this.

Number One since the Seventies!
I have been reading Popular Photography since the early 70s. Back in the good ole days of film. They were number one then and number one now in the digital age. The size of the magazine has gotten smaller over the years but is still a great read. Very informative when it comes to all aspects of photography. Equipment reviews are always great. Even the ads are great. LOL

A venerable photo magazine and yes, it is somewhat showing it's age.
This is still a useful and informative publication. I think beginners might find it especially helpful. I do think it's lost a bit of the "edge" it used to have, but I suppose magazines, just like people, sometimes slow down quite a bit as they age.

It's okay
Years ago, when time was young and so was I, I subscribed to Popular Photography and learned very much from it. I didn't throw the magazines away until we started making cross country moves. I was looking forward to getting reacquainted, but it's not the same magazine. It seems to me that now it is too much oriented toward the professional photographer, or toward someone who has a lot more money to invest in photography than I do. It's okay, but I won't renew.
