X-Men: Shattershot

Good points:The extras are a great selling point; namely the "Survival Guide to the Mansion" was never collected in an oversized form before. It was originally printed in a size of a regular comics but with binder on. Plus, the gorgeous Psylocke bikini pin-up art by Art Thibert is still a standout even after all these years.There are three major story arcs: the Shattershot arc, the Skinning of Souls, and Puzzle Quest. Each are very different takes on 90's X-men. The Shattershot arc is essentially a space opera, Skinning of Souls is essentially a tragedy with ramifications on later arcs involving Ilyanna (Magik) and Piotr (Collosus). Finally, Puzzle Quest is written in the vein of a Frank Miller story. These arcs represent the initial wholly original stories after Chris Claremont and Jim Lee left Marvel. The collection before it, "X-cutioner's song" was already story boarded by Lee and other creators who left marvel to form Image.Bad points:Each of the story arcs are promising in the beginning, but they eventually peter out into their respective conclusion as the story lacks the panache of earlier Claremont stories nor the stunning artwork by Jim Lee that can hide a plodding story with beautifully drawn art. Each of the endings are unremarkable.Bottom line: If you are a completionist, get this as the extras more than makes up for the lukewarm stories behind it, plus, the art of Andy Kubert became better on this run ('92-'93) compared to his time as guest artist on the X-men ('91). If you are not a completionist, then think about it and decide for yourself.

If you are a fan of early 90s X-men this is a great story that you're likely to enjoy. The cover and book look much better up close.
