Product works perfectly, good build, and solves the mic vs. line level XLR discrepancy.
This lives up to the Shure brand. Construction and feel are solid. It works perfectly and no sign of any signal degradation. Mixer board XLR out is line level, and typical XLR feeds to house systems are mic level. This attenuator does the job. I've pretty much set it to -25 and plan to leave it there. Pro line level is +4. consumer line level is -10. My equipment is pro so I need the full -25db. Not that I can imagine consumer level with XLR but if you come across it you may use one of the other 2 settings.

Great for API 512c preamp
Great for API 512c preamp that doesn’t have an output control. I stick mine on the output to converter and now can use DI boxes better. On my API512C I noticed just because it hits red doesn’t mean clipping! This is the go to for API 512c preamps! I just set it at the lowest option and was good enough to turn up and hit no louder than -12 to -6 or so. I wasn’t able to turn my API up more than 9 o’clock before this. Now I can go noon or more for the mojo of that preamp.

Great pad for home-made subkick
Works great for padding the signal of a home-made subkick style woofer microphone for drums.

Works really well to lower volume
Sometimes there is not enough volume and you need a preamp, but sometimes the problem is just the opposite and there is too much volume. For this kind of problem, this little thing is a great solution. It seems to work great with the Zoom H4n, which has really "hot" premaps. Line in was blaring if the volume wasn't way down, so this seems to bring the volume down to a reasonable level. The mic seems to clip a little too, so if I keep the Zoom H4n, I might need to get another one of these. What is nice about this little gadget is that it is switchable. I don't always need the highest setting so it's nice to be able to choose a setting that works for my set up. So far I am happy with this product.

Great for cutting back active DI signal levels
Two of the several DIs I use for bass guitar put out signals that are way too hot for the boards I feed. This attenuator fixes that. The ability to adjust attenuation is a great feature. And yes, it really does pass phantom power. Both DIs I tested it with run on phantom power, and both ran fine with this unit in the signal path. Great quality, too. Feels well-made, including the slide switch. Tip of the day: Don't cheap out on things like this. Spend the money and buy the good stuff. Shure knows what they're doing.

A necessary device that in some applications, allows you to get the absolute most out of your equipment.
A great little device that anyone working with audio should have several pairs of. We use them primarily in a recording studio setting to pad down hot mic pres that don't have builtin output attenuation. This is especially effective with "character pres" that you want drive hard going in to the pre for maximum color and saturation but then pad the signal down going back in to the DAW. Product is very well made; the pad switch and XLRs seem very durable and feel like they will hold up to years of use. Shure certainly knows how to make durable, workhorse equipment. These have all worked flawlessly for us.

Keeps Distortion Away
Needed more “head” room in my audio hookup between audio board and computer input- this Attenuator hooked right up is doing the job.
