The Comics: The Complete Collection Hardcover – April 1, 2011

If you love comic strips old and new you will not be disappointed with this book. It’s isn’t comprehensive, but focuses on the influential strips from each decade. Great layout, and well written. I love comic strips. This book is a must have for any similarly inclined enthusiast.

One of the most thorough comic strip histories I have come across. Well written and illustrated. Good reproductions. Especially enjoyed the sections dealing with the syndicates' role in comics history and the relationships between the syndicates and the artists.Wish the book was twice as long and even more strips included! Having had some experience myself as a working cartoonist, I would have enjoyed some info on the individual artists' working methods.

A superb anthology of American comics through about ninety years with voluminous reproductions and extensive narrative.. All your favorites are here, as well as many you may not have seen, heard of or cared for. The title includes the word "Complete" because this book combines two separately printed books over time. Put aside a year to read it all!

I just finished the 6 vol. set of Terry And the Pirates and was wondering where I'd go next. Looks like I made a good choice. Not only did I get another great volume and a BIG one at that, but I get something that will lead me into my next quest and educate me along the way. I'm really happy with this volume (actually two volumes in one), it covers everything right from the beginning.

The book shipped very quickly (especially for it being the Christmas season!). I bought this book for my father, the ultimate comics nerd. The is very well laid out and has brilliant colour for the non black and white comics.Buy this one instead of the two volumes separately! It looks more impressive sitting on your bookshelf.

Buy it. And be prepared to spend hours, days, weeks, poring through this magnificent history and color, stories and characters, recollections and memories. You can't help but find yourself reliving and revisiting characters and story lines that have stayed with you (and perhaps your parents and grandparents) all your life. A fantastic, extremely inexpensive, and massive volume of graphics and comics.

This book is very informative and covers a lot of the history of the comic strip. I'm disappointed, though, that it is damaged.

I bought this for gifts for 2 comics fans. It's a huge book, filled with great history of a multitude of comics. It brought back a lot of memories for them and gave great insight to new strips! Great purchase for any fan of comics!

it is really a nice book, which summarises the history of the comics .... not only good for reviewing different drawing styles but also fun as you basically enjoy the comics :)

Compilación histórica de comics, que aunque pretende ser global, se centra sobre todo en artistas americanos. Todo aparece muy desordenado, ya que como único criterio a distinguir utilizan el año 1945 (final de la guerra) para clasificar las obras elegidas. Para el que quiera un buen libro almanaque del mejor comic de siempre, recomiendo "1001 comics you must read before you die". Por lo demás para los amantes del comic, no deja de ser un libro entretenido en una buena edición de tapa dura y gran formato.
