Great pen, writes well. Good to hold. You can buy spare nibs, and there is an optional refillable cartridge if you like bottled ink.

This pen have a butter smooth writing. This being medium nib write like a charm. This comes with a converter. I have used only the cartridge that came with it and it is awesome. I liked the bright red colour and the trademark clip. As being medium nib writes a bit thick and will see a difference compared to fine nib of pilot. It's not heavy and looks great. The only con if I have to say is the place we hold the pen as it is a bit square which I haven't used to. Overall a bit priced but a great pen.

Wow! As only my second fountain pen in these past two months, I am once again taken by the quality and design of German engineering. Lamy has been brilliant in their approach to making various styles, sizes, weights and purposes of fountain pens for every hand and budget. Having first purchsed the Lamy Joy for reviving my lost love of calligraphy and lettering, that pen introduced me to the Lamy brand. (and to show my appeciation for fine German quality, for about 3 decades now, my favorite go-to pen has been my Mont Blanc Rollerball. So, to speak of Lamy coming from my Mont Blanc speaks volumes!) This Lamy Safari is perfectly balanced. Additional or replacement nibs are very affordable and you can switch from one to another easily, even if you've never even thought about changing a nib before! (It takes less than 2 minutes and requires no tools!) This allows you the ability to go from a "standard" Fine, Extra Fine, Medium or Broad nib to suit your every mood or .purpose.... Easily, quickly and inexpensively. Not sure what nib to buy with your Lamy Safari first? Every Lamy nib I own (i now have 6 with 2 more on the way.) is made with precision and stunningly simple contemporary design. I'd suggest in addition to the nib that comes with your new Lamy Safari (I specifically bought with a medium nib.) order another different nib with it also. (Just note that many Lamy pen styles take one type nib, while others take yet another style.) My Lamy Safari and my Lamy Joy nibs are interchangeable. But my latest addition, my Lamy Studio takes different nibs than the Safari and the Joy. In fact, make that additional nib something truly unique if you've never used one before... add a Lamy Calligraphy nib! Your holiday greeting cards never looked so gorgeously hand written. And a Calligraphy nib "almost" does it on it's own! A 1.9 Calligraphy nib is perfect for that professionally lettered look on greeting cards and wedding invitatons. Perhaps a slightly narrower 1.5 or 1.1 Calligraphy nib for everyday use. And yet, even Lamy's non-calligraphy nibs are a pleasure to use and you can't go wrong with them for traditional style nibs. You could spend more $$$ on a pen. But now that I've discovered Lamy, I know it's not necessary. The Lamy Safari would make the ideal pen if you want just one fountain pen in your life. (it's also not so expensive that if someone "borrows" it and you never see it again, you're not out major $$$'s. But you WILL be at a loss on sentiment! (Compare that with having a Mont Blanc "walk away!) But if like me, you get totally hooked in those first few strokes with a Lamy Safari and find yourself wanting to expand your collection, may I suggest adding a Lamy Joy next... More of a "quill feel" in length and balance... Pure "Joy" (pun intended) for Calligraphy especially. Then, for that subdued elegance in a fountain pen for the office, or board meetings, or for sitting at the bursar's desk at your son's or daughter's college, writing that tuition check, a Lamy Studio is THAT fountain pen! With just those 3 Lamy's as examples, (and there are plenty other models too... even one for children!) I have a collection of pens I am proud to own and can honestly say that I once again enjoy the art of writing!
