This book is a must read for anyone who is self employed and fighting the demons that come from this experience. Self doubt seems to follow me around like the proverbial albatross around my neck. But this book articulates the ideas - of self talk - into an easy to digest perspective. It seems too easy - and in fact - it is - to just change the dialogue I have with myself. But it is a bit more complex. Yet, the first half of the book provides evidence and supports why this simple and effective method of communication with myself works. But it does take time to turn off the tape recorder that has been playing for decades. The second half of the book is full of affirmation statements by category. This is the heart of the matter... to read and meditate on these new affirmations on a daily or every other day basis. It has worked wonders in one month.

Important Insights into Self-Talk and the Subconscious
Self-Talk. It is the programming of the mind. When we tell ourselves something is too hard, or easy, or that we are successes or failures, it's self-talk. Shad Helmstetter 's approach to Self-Talk is that it is our subconscious programming, and that it is critical in determining our life successes and failures. Using numerous examples of "proper" Self-Talk, Helmstetter takes the reader on a tour of the psychology and physiology of Self-Talk, and how our notions of ourselves and others impact our lives.The book is divided into 2 parts - the first part is an introduction to the Self-Talk paradigm, and a general overview of what it is and how it works - both psychologically and physiologcally. The second part gives examples of "good" self talk - whether for attitude adjustment, physical fitness, career success and many other common things in our lives we want to impact. The Self-Talk approach provides affirmations that Helmstetter notes, over time, will impact our self perception and our performance.The concepts are common sense, but the fact that so many fail to heed the lessons reinforces the message. What we say about ourselves and what we think about ourselves become self-fufilling prophecy. Change those words and thoughts for the better, and improvement will follow.

Amazing read, I considered getting this after reading half way through "What to say when you talk to yourself". it offers alot of scripts to go over. The book is great but it felt it could be said in fewer words. It made me eager to use the information and steps provided and what I appreciate is the fact that Dr.Shad emphasized to work on one important area of your life,to take smaller steps. I will keep coming back to this book. Thank you Dr.Helmstetter.

My most read book in my library
This book is a freaking goldmine of self-improvement. It has been incredibly effective and useful for me. I'll read a script from it when I wake up ("Building Self Esteem") to get my day started. I read the "Freedom from Worry" script if I am feeling anxious. I'll read the "Developing a Winning Personality" script if I'm feeling less than confident before I go out to socialize. I love that positive self talk and successful results create a cycle that eventually becomes natural enough to the point where scripts aren't necessary. This is the most valuable book I own!

Watch What You Say
Very clear explanations of why our "self-talk" is so important, and strong recommendations for improving what we say. I have read this book twice now and am writing self-talk scripts for myself. I recommend this book for anyone who wants to accomplish something they haven't been able to as yet. Actually, for anybody at all.

A wonderful self help book
This book, and its predecessor What To Say When You Talk ..., has been a godsend. It has helped raise my self esteem and my low moods. I spend about a half hour most days reading the affirmative essays in Part 2. This daily practice plus a half hour of meditation have done wonders for my emotional well being. I am almost completely convinced of the author's premise that we can undo our negative programming and live a more productive and enjoyable life by frequently reading the essays. This is a book I will treasure for life. I am giving copies to friends.

Complete Solution!
This books goes along with "What to Say When You Talk to Yourself" and a great guide to creating your own Self Talk.It would be nice if the Author would update this one as well. but none the less worth finding a good used edition.

Amazing book. Go for it.
What to say when you talk to your self? More importantly how should you say it. If you talk to yourself well, then possibly you can face any problem and come out victorious. But when you don’t talk to yourself well then sooner or later you’re doomed. This book gives you so many wonderful ways to talk to yourself that if you follow it well then your life will be different. Amazing book. Go for it.

Life changing!
This book and this author has been life changing for me and my husband. I am so grateful I found a copy of it in excellent condition! This book gives me hope for lasting positive change in my life and how I talk/think about myself. I love how many different scripts are available to use to help with getting started with positive self talk. They are so well written and I can record them in my own voice. Shad Helmsetter has his own tapes that he charges money for which is great but this just gives me a more affordable option. He also continues to talk further about his self talk concepts. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is struggling with what they think about themselves. Or anyone looking to create good, healthy habits.
