The pin chuck and drills are a gift to someone who has a desire to make a piece of jewellery and will need to drill at least one small hole. The pin chuck works well and under magnification even the smallest drill looks to be sharpened correctly. The drill diameters were also measured and came out about right. I haven’t tried drilling anything - at these sizes the life expectancy won’t be very high but we are always hopeful and they all arrived in good condition, well packaged and on time.

Bought to build a model railway signal, the actual hand operated drill is good quality for the money but sadly it arrived with 4 fewer drill bits than advertised. The comments about sharpness fromother buyers of said drill bits is about right. I was using it on plastic and very small pieces at that. For very thin pieces it managed ok, but thicker ones needed me to put a sewing needle in the drill vice which worked well and then finished off with the suppplied drill bits.

The handle's alright on this drill, however, the drill bits aren't correctly sharpened if they've even been at all. They're supposed to be sharpened to a split point at the end so that when the drill is run into a workpiece, the drill cuts into and then lifts away the material you're drilling into. A majority of these bits aren't even cut with the split point at all, which means they can't cut into material easily and they don't remain centrered either when attempting to drill into a punched hole. I'd advise against ordering this specific hand drill and look for an alternative because unless you want to finish the job of sharpening the drill bits so they're actually usable, you won't be getting any decent holes done with this set...

This is a very small hand drill with a selection of very fine drillbits. The drill action works by keeping your palm on the end to apply light pressure while you rotate the middle section with your fingers to drill. Its does work but take a lot of time to drill through plastic. Its useful for creating very small holes - say in models, craft work and so on. Its no use for heavy duty drilling on hard materials. So it works but there are some issues: first, the bits come mixed up and loose in a small plastic bag and its really impossible to know the actual sizes of each. Second, the fine bits will snap VERY easily so you need to insert the bit right up into the chuck leaving only a few millimetres exposed, any more and the bit will snap. Last, the bits are not exactly sharp - they do cut but its slow progress. So overall, its what I expected: a cheap, manual drill for cutting fine holes in relatively soft materials. Just set your expectations there and don't look for miracles.

This is absolutely tiny. I should have read the other reviews that mentioned modelling work. It holds the supplied drill bits well, and yes, they are all blunt, but don't buy this as a regular addition to your toolkit. Otherwise OK. Dammed with faint praise!
