LOVE THIS BOOK - just as good as the first one.
I fell in love with the style of books because of this author. I read them before bed, and they feel my head full of dreams of France.

Not As Great As: "A Year In Provence"
This book is not as good as the author’s first book. Did not have the author’s sense of humor like the first one.At the beginning of the book, the book is interesting, but as it goes along, the author wrote things that were really not necessary and important for his readers to know about, as things were of his own personal life that you really don't learn anything from. I would of have preferred more information about the characters in his first book, the area, the culture and its' people like his first book was than the personal stories about food and personal encounters with other people.I also did not like nor appreciate the foul language or the curse words again in the book about his dogs like the first book, as books should always be clean and pure to their readers. He also shows more of his selfish and haughty attitude in this book about people when they visited him, as he did not show them respect by intervening, when his adopted dog would approach them in a disrespectful manner.Don't know yet if this one is worth keeping. A Year In Provence is definitely a more interesting and enjoyable book to read than this one. So definitely recommend that one better.I hope that his next book: "Encore Provence," is a lot better and enjoyable than this one, if not what a waste of money and disappointment that would be.

A worthy sequel
If you enjoyed Mayle's 'A Year in Provence', you should like this too. Whereas 'A Year in Provence' was a laid out as a diary of his first year living in the region, this book, published about 2 years later, is a collection of essays, all written with the same wit and keen eye, and sharing his love of the region. Definitely worth reading. If you have not yet read 'A Year in Provence', I would recommend reading it first. After reading 'Toujours Provence', also check out 'Encore Provence', written in much the same style, but 8 years hence, upon his return to France after a 3 year hiatus living on Long Island.

I will be travelling soon to the places in Provence to enjoy the amazing food
The book is so well written that It makes you dream of living in Provence. I will be travelling soon to the places in Provence to enjoy the amazing food, beautiful places and friendly markets in France. It is sad that Peter Mayle passed recently and I'm very grateful that he wrote this marvellous book.

Funny and enjoyable
I saw "Year in Provence " by Peter Mayle on PBS years ago and loved it, so I was not disappointed when I read Toujours Provence by the same author. It has humorous stories in it just as "A Year in Provence did, and you can picture the images he paints with words in his stories. A very enjoyable and fun book to read!

Excellent read
I have enjoyed the only two books I have read written by Peter Mayle. "A year in Provence" and "Toujours Provence" both wonderfully absorbing and reminded me of the life we live in Madeira. Just about to download the next Provence book. Buy these books you wont be disappointed.

A series of interesting anecdotes in no particular order
Toujours … is basically more tales about Peter’s pursuit of the perfect pastis. It’s written with the same warmth as A Year In Provence but lacks the continuity. Most of the chapters capture the charm of the people and the place but exist as separate and unrelated anecdotes so there’s no beginning middle or end to this book. In fact you could read it in whatever order you like and not miss anything. I do feel though that he ran out of ideas towards the end and the final two chapters were added to hit his target word count. Won’t stop me reading Encore … next but it’s more in hope than excitement for what happens next.

For Fans of A Year in Provence
I loved a Year in Provence. So I bought this one next, its the same sort of book so I have enjoyed it, but, its not as good as the first book. I think if you hadn't read the first book and weren't really into France, the food, the drink, the culture etc you would wonder what the fuss was about. But if you've read the first one and you love holidaying in France and long for a 'better' life somewhere across the channel then you'll enjoy this book - but not as much :-)

Still a good read
I read a year in Provence twenty odd years ago and now revisited it and the trilogy as well this one goes into more detail of characters and daily activities some of it is slightly tedious but generally a good read with splatterings if humour and I am transported to a hot sunny farmhouse garden immediately and the blue azure sky is clear and crystal like x

Oh dear....
Should have stopped after the first book. This is simply a tedious bank account "inflater"And he STILL permanently refers to his Wife as "my Wife" - what arrogance, she must have a name for Heaven's sake ???

A good read and chuckle
I read this in hard copy many years ago but it got lost somewhere along the way in the course of several house moves. It is great to read it again and for me it offers a sense of pleasure and fun. If I wanted a detailed analysis of French society I would go elsewhere but if I want to have a good read and chuckle just give me this book.
