The Perfect Carry-On Backpack for Two Weeks in Europe
I bought one each for my husband and myself as cabin bags to travel to Europe for 2 weeks. It is shockingly roomy and has an expansion zipper, that once fully closed, can be zipped up to reduce the size further. It also has 2 click-lock tabs on each side that add additional security and durability for a stuffed bag, plenty of zipper compartments (though we didn't put anything valuable on those outside pockets), hide-away shoulder straps with top and side handles. It is incredibly lightweight, and the zippers and fabric are very durable. I chose this bag as it fits even the smallest international flight dimensions and didn't want to have to wheel bags on old cobblestone streets and on/off planes, buses and trains. The look is very simple and works well with almost any travel outfit. My husband and I said multiple times throughout the trip how impressed we were and how good the value was for what we paid. I truly couldn't recommend this bag more.

Great as carry on. Expandable and easy carry
Good quality, multiple pockets and compartments to separate out your carry on items for easy access. Expandable..fits carry on guidelones and was able to stuff alot into it. Even if packed heavy it's easy to carry as a knapsack on your back. Material is durable. Its well lined on inside.

Excellent Backpack
It’s spacious, well-organized, and feels sturdy and durable. The multiple compartments make it easy to keep everything organized, while the design is comfortable to carry. Great size for travel and everyday use, and it looks even better in person. Excellent value for the price!

✈️👍🏻5 stars for a carry on on Delta airlines 🙋🏼♀️
Absolutely perfect for my needs! 45L size. Fit perfect on Delta overhead bin. Great material, design, and zippers, sturdy, not flimsy. And it was easy to carry as a backpack. Great overall workmanship! I ordered the larger bag for a flight, because I have the smaller version of 30 L .I totally recommend.! 5 stars

Spacious packing and fits under airline seat
There are definitely better options for convenient clever pockets and water bottle holders and charging ports etc... This is a fairly simple design. BUT it is super spacious and somehow still fits under the seat easily on breeze airlines. Very happy with this purchase overall.

Great deal on a great backpack, but beware of spotty quality control
I travel a lot and once had my checked luggage lost, so I like to be able to pack as much as possible in a carry-on bag to ensure it arrives with me. While a hard-sided rolling bag is nice when traveling long distances in airports, a backpack carry-on makes it easier to navigate when you already have a large rolling suitcase, a backpack is better for stairs, and the flexibility of a backpack makes it easier to fit luggage into the trunk (out of sight) when renting cars (which are generally a lot smaller outside of North America).Overall, I would give the Matein travel backpack 5 stars. It's a step down from, say, a Cotopaxi or Osprey travel backpack, but at less than a quarter of the price (and half the price of an inferior North Face backpack), it's a nice travel bag with lots of features at a very affordable price.I compared several different travel backpacks at different price points. Since capacity is just a number and doesn't necessary correlate to useable space, I used vacuum bags for my clothes and filled each with the same 20 lbs of stuff. The Matein backpack had great useable space and I'd say even better useable pockets than some other, more expensive, backpacks I tried (which had some smaller pockets that could only be used for small items, which I prefer to carry in my "personal item" bag). And the Matein was better than some other travel backpacks in that the shoulder straps could be stowed away, making it easy to carry from the side handle without dragging or tripping over straps. The strap on the back to slide over a rolling suitcase is a nice feature. And what I especially like is that the Matein opens up like a traditional suitcase, so it's easy to see--and get to--your packed items (since they aren't buried at the bottom of a top-loading backpack). I also liked the side straps that can cinch down the pack, reducing its profile for those airlines that have stringent size restrictions.Where is falls short of the much pricier travel backpacks is that it doesn't have a hip belt to distribute the weight. After using an oversized traditional backpack for years, that wasn't a dealbreaker, but it did mean that it was less comfortable on the shoulders (which were supporting all the weight). That said, the Matein has pretty nicely padded shoulder straps and an adjustable chest strap, which make it better than a traditional backpack.Something to consider is that there isn't a pouch for a water bottle (not a dealbreaker for me since I store my water bottle in my "personal item" bag). It's also a more comfortable backpack for those who don't have really broad shoulders (since the straps might be too close together and cut into one's neck).I considered dinging it one star for quality control, which isn't great. I encourage you to check you bag carefully. The first bag they shipped me was missing one of the side straps (see photo). The replacement bag had all the straps, but the placement of these were slightly off for some of them--not a big deal, but evidence of not the greatest quality control. In the end, I decided to keep a much more expensive Sherpani travel backpack because of the hip belt and the more waterproof material for my bigger trips (when I'm hauling more stuff around big international airport hubs). But I'm also definitely keeping the Matein as one to use for shorter trips.I can't speak yet to the durability. Time will tell.

A Travel Must-Have for Europe (and Beyond!)
I used the MATEIN Large Travel Backpack on a multi-country trip through Europe last year, and it quickly became something I relied on every single day. From flights to trains to a cruise, this backpack handled it all without any issues. The carry-on size is perfect for European travel. I flew several budget airlines and had no trouble fitting it in overhead bins or under the seat when it wasn’t expanded. When I needed more space, the expandable design made it easy to pack clothes, toiletries, tech, and a light jacket without feeling bulky. It worked especially well on the trains in Italy. Moving through stations, lifting it onto luggage racks, and navigating crowded platforms was so much easier with a backpack instead of a rolling suitcase. I also brought it on a cruise, and it was ideal for embarkation day and shore excursions—comfortable to wear, easy to store, and great for carrying essentials around the ship and in port. The hidden shoulder straps were a feature I ended up loving. I could tuck them away and carry it like a suitcase when needed, which was super convenient in airports, hotels, and on the ship. The anti-theft design gave me peace of mind in busy areas, and the waterproof material came in handy during unexpected rain. Despite how much it holds, the bag is lightweight and comfortable, even on long walking days. The compartments are well organized, which made staying organized while moving city to city really easy.I also love the beige color—it looks clean and stylish without being too sporty, so it worked well for both travel days and sightseeing.Overall, this backpack made traveling through Europe, riding trains in Italy, and cruising stress-free and convenient. If you’re looking for a practical, stylish, and reliable travel backpack, I highly recommend the MATEIN Large Travel Backpack.

This is an excellent backpack/suitcase
I can now confidently write a review of this bag after using it for three European trips since May 2022. It is absolutely fabulous! My first use was a week trip and the second and third trips were for two weeks. It is a clamshell design and if you pack efficiently (I rolled most of my clothing) it fits everything you need. During the past two and a half week trip, I bought a few extra gifts and some clothing and it was quite full. I used the expanding zipper for the first time. I had looked at $200 bags when I was hunting for a clamshell backpack, but went for this one because of some of the more helpful reviews. I was nervous because of the cheaper price and some of the negative reviews. I am so glad I did. It is solid. No sign of tearing or stress in the straps or zippers. I have walked through big airports with this on my back and it is perfect. I admit it is a bit heavy when standing with it in your back for long periods of time so take it off until you need to walk with it. The bag is so well made, very sturdy fabric, very sturdy straps and very good zippers. Very very happy with this purchase. And even with the expanding zipper open, this bag will easily fit the suitcase regulations of all airlines. So much better than a pull carry-on with wheels which don’t always fit the airline’s bag stipulations because of the wheels or rigid handles. And so much easier to walk with it on your back through cobblestones streets. In fact, I walked the 25 minutes to our hotel from the train station on our recent trip with it on my back while my husband had to frequently pick his case up because the wheels wouldn’t go over the cobblestones streets. Yup, it was hot (35 degree weather) and I was glad to remove it but was more than happy not to have to carry it. Such a great bag!!!!!

Great as a carry on
I love this backpack. Bought the same one a few years ago for my mom and loved it so much, I bought another one for myself for upcoming travel. It fits a lot without looking overly large or bulky. For me, it's big enough for a week long trip using just this as my carry-on. Haven't had any issues with airlines like I do with my "approved" carry on roller luggage. Would highly recommend it.
