SunforceAC/DC Power Converter

I needed a way to test electronic components that I planned to install in my car. I found some more complicated items require careful preparation and testing before installation. But since they run on 12 volts DC, it is necessary to have a power source. It's not always practical to install items in the car and can be risky if the electric layout isn't correct.This unit supplies reasonable power (a little less than six amps) and covers my needs well for a reasonable price.It is small and light. The power cord is long enough to put in on a work table with a little to spare. The items I have attached worked properly and showed the correct 13.8 volts of power (the usual rating of car output when running).I have run it for several one hour sessions without the unit, cords or socket getting hot. The items I powered with it ran as expected and did not get hot or show any performance problems.It's all good!

This is an excellent unit and has been more helpful than I expected it to be. Plug into regular 110/120v electric and you have a cigarette lighter plug ready to accept your 12v 'toys'. I bought it for my boat house so I could plug in floating fishing light from my boat when I just want to fish from the dock - and it's great for that. When I got a new sonar/char plotter unit I attached a cigarette lighter adapter to the power wires on it and was able to explore the unit's mapping facility in detail and do some of the settings so it will be ready to go when it's in the boat. Also was able to easily update the software on the unit. It is handy anytime you want to try out a new 12v device without having to go and hook it up in a car or boat. I was surprised at the economical price on this unit, too. This seems to be a good, solid unit that should hold up well over time.

I just purchased an Engel portable refrigerator-freezer Model MD14F and I needed a converter cord so it can go from the car to a hotel room as needed when traveling. The unit works only with DC power so I needed the converter cord to run it off A/C power. The Engel specs said this could be done using their own converter cord but I decided to try the less expensive Sunforce converter cord which I could get more rapidly. The Sunforce cord promised a somewhat greater Amp power than the refrigerator/freezer required so I ordered it. It arrived in 2 days as promised (reliable Amazon Prime!) and I plugged it into the A/C outlet first, as suggested by another reviewer who said that's very important. I then connected it to the DC cord that came with the unit; it had already been plugged into the freezer. It all turned on instantly and the unit is cooling right now to the freezer setting which promises to be -15 Centigrade. There are 5 settings on the Engel unit and this one is the coldest. It's all very quiet and the converter cord's box is slightly warm - not at all hot. So far, all is working well and I'm happy with this purchase.

I recently bought this converter to run a solid state cooler. When I first plugged it in, everything worked fine. When we got to our destination, it would not work. I discovered that you need to plug in the AC cord first and then plug in the device you wish to power with it. Apparently the circuit does not like having a load on it when it first powers up.The good:The converter seems to have no problem powering a cooler.It runs relatively cool but make sure you leave room for all the ventilation slots to breathe.The bad:You really need to plug in the AC cord first. The little instruction sheet that came with it said nothing about this.If I had designed this converter, I would have included some indicator LEDs to let you know the unit is working or why it's not working.I would buy this product again and would recommend it to others for powering 12 VDC items that draw less than the specified output current.

replacement for portable refrigerator works great

We were very happy about these two units that we purchased through Amazon. The AC/DC power adaprters that were used to power our two Medi-Fridge Safe Temp Four Liter fridges that both stopped working at the same time after we had them about a year and a half. I contacted the company we purchased the fridges from and we were told that they did not have any replacement charger cords to sell us as they had no extras. I attempted to contact the company which the manufacturer purchased the fridge AC/DC adaptor cords from and found that it was a Japanese company and their add information was mostly in Japinese. I went through their catalogue list and was unable to find the exact model unit in the list as they mainly manufacutre custom AC/DC units to sell to other companies. I went on line to Amazon and immediately found what we needed and purchased this item. They arrived in a couple of days and are in service now powering two refrigerartors that contain medications that need to be refrigerated in vehicles that are on the road all day.Thank you for having exactly what we needed and even more so, also at a very reasonable price.

Quería evitar usar el encendedor del auto para usar un compresor de aire, y con éste convertidor funcionó correctamente.

I have only used this product for 2 camping trips so far. One for 4 days, and last for 2 days. Worked as expected, and didn’t overheat. Unit is larger than other power supplies, but looks well vented and didn’t get hot/warm like my last power supply. Permanent 120v cord, and the 12v connector fits good and tight. I have other Sunforce products, and trust their brand

Works great for my car cooler, I had it plugged in for at least an hour and although the unit itself got warm, it hasn't got overly hot and my bag is nice and cool inside, gonna be great for groceries in the summer, pre-cool the bag in the house and good to go! Will be great in the travel trailer for extra bevvies while camping too!

Buen producto, materiales de plástico, muy ligero, cumple con lo que promete, solo recordarles que este adaptador sirve para aparatos con un máximo de 5 ampers, no se calienta pero si hay que tener cuidado de no golpearlo porque podría romperse el plástico del convertidor, funciona excelente para linternas, coolers y aparatos pequeños, NO funciona para bombas de aire de auto, ya que muchos la compran para eso y para aspiradoras de coche, para eso es mejor buscar otras opciones con mayor amperaje a partir de 10 ampers mínimo.
