Quality control
The blade is not a reproduction. That is the profile sort of matches but the real knife was a full grind from back to edge based on photos the company provides of their originals and this isn't. I had two knives show up and the tips on both were messed up one much worse than the other. Other details didn't seem to match. Both should have been seconds. To be fair I'd have considered the worst case to be a third. The backs of the blades were left like they came out of the die when they where stamped out of rolled steel. I don't think that was true of the originals. The sheaths were okay and the handles, described as plastic, seem to be okay. They feel like and look like hard rubber. The good news is the metal was blued and wasn't rusted though it wasn't oiled either. The metal seems to be a decently hard carbon steel. The knives came sharp but of course the first thing I had to do was work on the front with a file to try and fix the mess they made of the blade.I want to be fair here but the bottom line is I'd have been hacked if the worst case had been a $10 knife. For the price being charged the worst case seriously reeks.Do what you want but Ka-Bar would never have shipped these blades. I suppose they may still give years of service if you take care of them and don't play to rough with them.

Disappointed with knife
Disappointed with knife... Spine not finished or cleaned up after being cut out of stock steel by die cutter/ Rough and it's cross sectional profile is like a letter "M". Knife does not even have a point- blunted (profile is like a pair of children's scissors! Rounded and sharpened from the sides with a very wide bevel/edge angle). Probably a 'factory second' buffed up to sell at a steep discount. Even then, ir looks like the guy in Quality Control called in sick that day! Ad states "An authentic piece of military history, the Colonial Mark 1 is manufactured to the same specifications as the original Colonial Mark 1 as established by the Navy Department during world war II." NOT TRUE! I have an original Mark I and this is not it! The original is well finished, spine smooth, sharply POINTED, has a quillon/hand guard (which this one doesnt! which means your hand will/may slip onto the blade when trying to thrust the blunt point!) Original has a stacked leather handle ending in a cast separate pommel- this one is a cast plastic handle with a very rough flashing of the mold halves, terminating in a cast plastic end cap/pommel. On the positive side, the sheath is great. This is not a authentic reproduction but more of a reasonable knock-off. Usable but very disappointing.

A piece of WWII history good quality steel US made knife.
This knife is old school all the way, as knife collector and looking into several different vendors for this knife and manufacturer of the Navy MK-1 this knife was the closes to the original mil-spec knife of that time period. Tenite handle the 1075 forged from stock hand finish/blue steel. nice leather sheath. mine came sharp no problems like other reviewer stated. the kicker of the purchase it comes with a letter of authenticity from the department of the Navy re-contractor Colonial RI dated 1945. the price the history quality is why I made the purchase. yes I would recommend it to others. if your a serous outdoor hard core survivalist this knife may not be for you!! go cold steel k-bar,Ontario MK-3 but you will pay lot more, it's fine for mortal men Uh? I wrap my handle with 550 desert camo para cord I am good to go!!

Poor look alike
The Colonial Knife Mark 1 Navy Survival Knife was a real disappointment. I have several originals and wanted something I could abuse without guilt. Well, this knife is ripe for abuse! The blade is crudely cut from sheet steel and flat ground from half the blade width to a serviceable edge. Many Mk1 are flat ground from the spine to the edge. The handles are made from cheap molded plastic and the seams need smoothing. It's hard to tell but it doesn't feel like it has a full-length tang. Even the clip point is rounded like a butter knife making is difficult to pierce cardboard. The only thing it has going for it is the price. I'll have no worries about leaving this knife out in the rain or bending it trying to cut kindling. For $10 more I'll get the Ka-Bar Kraton Handled Straight Edge Mark 1 Knife and use that for serious field craft.

Expected more
The knife was sharp on arrival and took an even better edge quickly. I was not impressed with the blades finish. I would have liked a pointed tip as well. The handle had lots of spru I trimmed down. The sheath on the other had was very well made. If I get my hands on an old original Mk 1, it will have a really nice home in that sheath.

Differences but The Same
I'm an ex Navy man, Seabees actually. I had a knife as this only not in black nor rubber(?) handle Plain steel with stacked leather washers for the handle. So, yes, I was a bit disappointed with the appearance. It looks a sturdy knife bought for a friend.

I find the Colonial Mark 1 one of the finest knifes I have ever owned. It came to me honed to a fine edge right out of the box. The case is made of fine leather. I am pleased with it all I have put through many trials so far it has held up great,I would recommend it to anyone for every day hunting and camping chores.
