TANTO SHIRASAYA folded steel with semi-glossy finish: This wide blade tanto has the same blade width as most katana. On top of the blade is a groove/bohi. The beautiful folded steel blade is made up of two types of carbon steels - 1060 and 9250. This combination produces a blade with superior strength and a very hard edge of 66 HRC. The hardened edge is visible and was compacted during forging showing less laminations at that section. The handle/tsuka and scabbard/saya are made of light colored hardwood with clear glossy lacquer finish . (Also available with a satin finish. ) Both the opening of the handle and scabbard has a black synthetic ring to prevent wood from splitting. A bamboo peg is used to secure the blade tang.
