almost killed my reef
I have a SPS heavy coral reef tank. I previously had one of these dosing soda ash on a timer that was also regulated by a Milwaukee PH monitor that I wired to only allow small dosing if and only if the PH was below a certain level, only for a minute or two a day. I covered all of my bases to make sure I couldn't overdose. Worked fine till I replaced the SP 3000 with a brand new one. The dosing pump didn't pinch off the line and prevent siphoning like it's supposed to. A months worth of soda ash (A very strong PH buffer of sorts) dumped into my tank while I was out(2 hrs). Luckely it only shocked my water parameters and took ALL of the calcium out of solution. Bottom line. It works as long as you don't trust it to do what it promises. Don't set it up thinking it will prevent back siphoning either way. Set an extra check valve inline as well.
