Dog Diaries #4: Togo

My 9 year old son is an advanced reader who doesn't particularly enjoy reading. He's at a weird stage where chapter books are either too easy and babyish or conversely the chapters are too long for him to sit through. His class is studying the Iditarod at school and doing a reading challenge to go along with it, so I thought I'd get him some books to read for the challenge. I ordered a couple and this one was the clear winner. He loved the book- choosing reading over video games!- and asked for more in the series! A win-win!

Told from the point of view of the dog. He uses a lot of metaphors and my 9yr old was constantly asking “what does that mean?” LOLI do wish they had included more details of the diphtheria serum run, but a good read for 11ish year olds anyway.

My son isn’t a big reader of chapter books, but he was familiar with this story from Disney + and he was so excited to tell me all about how it ended. He asked for other books in the series and is currently reading Dash. This is his favorite by far.

My 8-year-old daughter loved this story after we learned that Balto was not the greatest canine hero in the Alaska dogsled rescue (but Balto got the animated movie in the 90s). She also really enjoyed "Barry," another title in this series, which is the one about the legendary St. Bernard in Switzerland.

I have this book a five.It was very exciting, and at times very sad. If you enjoy stories about dogs then you will love this book. I would recommend this book to anyone.

Best book series my granddaughter is on her 5th book. Easy to read with interesting stories
