Informative Textbook
I had to read this for my Medical Record class. The title pretty much speaks for itself...it explains the HIPPA, OSHA, and other government-regulated laws that medical professionals must follow. Each chapter starts with a story about an ethical situations that challenges readers to decide what they would have done in the situation. There are also questions and discussion guides at the end of each chapter. It is a useful textbook for one who needs to know the legal aspects of the medical field.

Does not consider enforcement realities
This book did not help at all with the ethics of state enforcement of errant medical practice guidelines and policy statements. A Federal Appeals court in Wilk v. AMA cited the US Supreme Court ruling in Goldfarb v. Virginia State Bar, which stated that enforced guidelines are not voluntary, but mandatory. So, when a physician is faced with an errant guideline, he must choose between proper care of his patient and facing the liabilities of potential adverse state action by his board of medicine. A physician who values his ethics more than he fears his board of medicine will treat the patient properly. But other physicians will virtually abandon their patients in favor of the safety of complying with unscientific guidelines. In spite of being a huge ethical issue, this situation is not discussed. This book also does not discuss the lack of ethics in evidence based medicine as it condones the ignoring of all medical evidence not produced by way of randomized clinical trials. The expense of these trials means that Big Pharma will control our health care. Where are the ethics in this marketing ploy? Not addressed.

Excellent overview of medical law and ethics
Lots of important detail. A book I will keep for future business and regular life applications. It covers subjects well, but also does a good job of offering information for a class that is an overview and limited by just the 3 credits we had for this class. I gained a lot of education from this text.

This book is not a bad read at all
This book is not a bad read at all. This was the book of choice for my Legal Aspects of Healthcare MBA class. Great choice by the professor as it was an interesting book that shared lots of examples and covered the basis of medical law and ethics.

Needed for College Class
This is an interesting subject to study and the book has been an easy read. It's difficult to rate something that is required for your college class.

Good information
It is a good book, but my school schedule was changed. Therefore, I have no idea if it was the right book for the class
