Ken Burns: Country Music

The best documentary on Country Music!!
As a country music musician, particularly old country this set taught me things I didn’t know and as always it’s in my opinion of all the documentaries that Ken Burns has done is the best. Its closest competitor is also done by Ken Burns, The Civil War. Bought several copies of both documentaries and the books of each. If you love music, blues, jazz, old and new country get this resource and you will watch it often and learn each time something new. Outstanding documentary of music.

A Excellent Documentary
This is an excellent documentary that features interviews with numerous insiders from the country music industry. It would have been nice if they had covered a few more important artists, but all in all, it is both entertaining and informative.

Mom Loves It
Ken Burns never disappoints. I saw this on PBS and got it for my Mom, since she is an old school country music lover. She was very pleased.cjr

A compelling survey of a very American music genre
I am a jazz musician who wanted to dig deeper into this aspect of American music. I was so entranced by the whole set that I've watched it three times already.Based on other reviews there appear to be gaps and omissions, but for me those are not important. Burns' Jazz series had the same flaws and complaints. Since I am not well versed in country music - especially the direction that it took after 1970 or so - this set quickly got me up to speed and pointed me to the sub genres that most appealed to me.To be sure I was familiar with some of the early stuff before purchasing this set, such as the Carter family, Jimmie Rogers (to a degree), Patsy Cline, Ernest Tubb and Hank Williams and Bob Wills. I had heard of Merle Haggard, but was not conversant with his music. I am now, based on this set, and am a staunch fan. Turns out that I have an affinity for quite a few country stars because of this movie. I was a jazz snob before watching this set, which does not hold true now. Whatever omissions or gaps this set is guilty of, it still opened my eyes (and ears) and gave me an appreciation for the music.

It's Ken Burns! Always a great documentarian.
I bought this purely because it was made by Ken Burns and through him to learn the history of country music like I've done with his Civil War series, Prohibition Series and Baseball etc etc. Magnificent!!
