Do I have to have the little fob or can this mouse connect direct to my Surface via bluetooth?

Not sure about the Bluetooth but I use the fob.

The mouse I'm using has a transmitter (USB) plug in. This one doesn't. Will it work the same?

this on does have a usb plug in by the photo you can not see it it is inside where the battery also is storedyes just plug it in any of your USB ports I am using mine on my desk top. not my laptop. hope that helps
