Get what you pay for
This is not very good quality but when you consider the price then as the saying goes you get what you pay for. It’s useful to see if this kind of instrument is for you but then you would have to invest in something better. The finish looks mass produced and isn’t attractive. Strings are poor as is sound. However I did get it tuned and did get a tune. A high nut makes the first fret sharp. Lots of poor quality examples but as I’ve said it’s very cheap price. I wish I could be more positive but if you are looking for a musical instrument perhaps a different one might be the best idea. If you want a cheap fun item you want to try out then this is useful.

terrible sound quality & out of tune (updated)
My initial review can be seen below, where I talked about how the strings keep going out of tune even after a few months of tuning. I've now had it for a year and it seems like the strings have finally settled (at least for the 30mins I'm playing on it...it used to go out of tune after several seconds!). BUT I think there's something wrong with the fretboard. Even if I tune the strings VERY accurately (and I've been using an electric tuner for this), when I play some chords, it's still out of tune!!! Don't think the distances between each ridge is right..This product was super cheap but now I'm going to have to spend more money to buy another because there's just no way of playing it properly! Only use this is good for is as a child's toy.Initial review: terrible sound quality, sounds like a kids toy. the strings keep going out of tune, sometimes even SECONDS after i've tuned it. i've already tightened the screws but still not great. its getting better but i've had for a few months now. i guess you get what you pay for!

Genuinely the best entry-level uke I've come across
Essentially the best entry-level ukulele I've come across. A strong (not solid but that's to be expected) wooden body, a resilient plastic composite neck, a decent bridge, excellent geared tuners, and good strings too. A Mahalo of the same price is all plastic, cheap-looking, cheap-feeling, and cheap-sounding; Stagg in turn gives you something of almost mid-range (quasi-professional) standard in comparison. The string action is pretty decent too, meaning a relatively comfortable play, even for absolute beginners.I genuinely trust Stagg to produce quality entry-level instruments that give people the strength to learn on and hone their basic skils; they built not just my first uke, but also my very first bass, my mandolin, and my melodica. I have no problems with any of them, and they have given me the confidence to learn and to gain the physical knowledge to become a better all-round musician. This uke in particular was so good I bought my elderly nan one for her birthday to give her something to excercise both her brain and body. There are obviously better quality ukes, but as far as I can tell, there's nothing this good for this price. The travel bag comes in handy too!

What have they done to Stagg ukes?
This is the second of these Stagg traditional ukuleles that I have bought (I have also bought a red one). This one was chipped and scratched; the fretboard paint was smudged and smeared. The machine heads were plastic (the other trad one and the red one both have metal heads). The strings are different (white rather than clear). I could not tune this one at all (they're always difficult at first, this one just will not tune).I am so disappointed because the first Stagg uke was the one that got us all hooked on playing. I think the maker/supplier has been changed or there has been cost cutting. It's such a shame because the other two ukes are good quality instruments and this one is a crime against music. Returned.I wish I had checked the newest reviews before I bought this ukulele, as many of the reviewers are saying the same as me. This is terrible quality. I've ordered a different brand now, going on recent reviews. Fingers crossed it's a good as my original Stagg uke.

Nice.
My Uke arrived today, and I'm quite pleased with it.Quality of the supplied strings aside (they're streeeetchy, as noted by other reviewers), the rest is great:The body is a sprayed matte finish with no marks at all.The neck is every so slightly twisted compared to the bridge, but this is so slight that it's barely noticeable unless you squint along the length. It certainly won't affect playability. There are no high frets, and it can be played quite hard with no buzzingContrary to other reviews the fret markers are definitely inlaid into the face of the neck (plastic rather than mother-of-pearl!). There are also small white paint dots on the top edge. For such a small instrument, the sound is surprisingly loud and has quite a nice warm tone to it.Now, I know nothing about Ukuleles having only owned one for about half an hour, but I reckon this is a pretty good instrument for a shade over twenty quid. I look forward to learning.
