A great read
The book is an anthology of connected short stories; sort of like different episodes of a TV series. Each story builds upon the events of the previous stories. The author's writing style is very entertaining. I found myself laughing at the way he described mundane tasks like eating a potato. The characters are well developed and multidimensional. Mr. Reborn-in-Jesus and his wife initially comes across as god-fearing, salt of the earth farmers. But as the stories progresses we learn that their scientific knowledge would have many PhD green with envy. The Anchorite, who initially appears to be an anti-social hermit, turns out to be much, much more. What kind of hermit owns a nuclear warhead?Unlike a lot of Sci-Fi stories heavy on the "science," the "science" in this is explained well in such a way that it's easy to suspend belief and enjoy the ride. Faster than Light drive is a form of time machine? Well, the way the author has the characters describing it, it makes perfect sense. In short, a great book; well written, likable (most of them) characters and highly entertaining.

Not for everyone, this little gem is an absorbing treat
First off, the writing style is akin to older fiction (a la Jules Verne) than to modern prose. It took me a little time to adjust to it, and I seem to be a flexible reader when compared to the rest of my friends and family.About 50 or so pages in, I was worried that this was one of those stealth Christian books. Fear not, however, this is not one of those obnoxious works of drivel.I hesitate to call this book abstract, but it is certainly off kilter.....I suppose that I am having a problem pinning this collection down, so I will digress. In closing, I will say one thing. I was taught to speed read as a child, which is a curse on recreational reading. When an average book takes four to seven hours to read, libraries seem small (I live in a smallish town) and supporting my habit can easily run into hundreds of dollars a month, coming across a book that forces me to take my time is refreshing. This book took me nearly ten hours of reading to complete, and none of the time was a chore. My hat is off to Mr Green.
