The Oblate Life

This was actually the 2nd and 3rd copies of this book I've purchased this year. (I've already given the others to friends interested in the topic.) It's a great overview of the whole Oblate program, what it means, and how it works. The book is actually a compilation of pieces written by several dozen different authors, each addressing a different aspect of Oblate Life from a personal and practical point of view. I strongly recommend it for anyone considering entering this way of life, or for anyone else in learning more about Benedictine Spirituality.The Oblate Life

This book is meant for those serious about becoming an Oblate with the Benedictines, as well as those who are simply curious. Every chapter is a gem and the support resources and bibliography are just as good. I strongly recommend "The Oblate Life" to anyone interested in a closer walk with The Lord.

I am an Orthodox Christian looking to deepen my daily walk with Christ and looking to spend more time in prayer and the reading of Holy Scripture. St Benedict is a pre-schism saint shared by the entire Christian church. This book contains excellent essays by monastics, Benedictine Oblates, and by both Catholic and Protestant authors giving an overview on what it means to be an Oblate following the Rule of Saint Benedict. I have just begun this journey and this is a good starting point. I have almost finished the book and it will be used for reference and periodic review.

He would have expected you to stay within the fold and obedience of the Catholic church. This book is horribly ecumenical and very liberal leaning.If you selected an Abbey more "right", conservative, Catholic and traditional, skip this book all together. I am an Oblate by the way. And no this book was NOT recommended by my Abbey and now I know why!

The Oblate Life provides a clear understanding of what is expected of a Benedictine Oblate, the process of becoming an Oblate and the obligations associated with an Oblate. I would highly recommend this book for anyone contemplating becoming an Oblate.
