Beautiful story, beautiful book. Timeless.
Bought this as an encouragement for an 11 year old girl. Read it first. Thankful for the recommendation from a trusted friend.

One of my favorites
I first read this book when I was 9 years old. I am now almost 70 and love it just as much as the first time. It never gets old. And even though I have read this at least 12 times, it is as good now as it was the first time.

~~ A breath of fresh air comes with a dose of Pollyanna! Review of BOTH books! ~~
"Well really, Nancy, just because I happened to have a sister who was silly enough to marry and bring unnecessary children into a world that was already quite full enough, I can't see how I should particularly WANT to have the care of them myself." Miss Polly, the speaker, knows her duty though and so Nancy is instructed to get an attic room ready for 11 year old Pollyanna.IMPORTANT: Due to Amazon having linked the reviews of Pollyanna and Pollyanna Grows Up together, this review covers them both. (The second book review is at the bottom so if you don't want any spoilers only read to the end of the Pollyanna review.)Boy can that girl talk! It amazes Nancy enough to make her cry, how Pollyanna always sees the positive in things even though Aunt Polly does not give her a warm welcome nor a nice room. Pollyanna has "an overwhelming, unquenchable gladness for everything that has happened or is going to happen". What is one of the first things Pollyanna does? Climbs out the window and down a tree! Who is the Man? How do Pollyanna's visits to the cantankerous Mrs. Snow go? A kitten? Well, if Miss Polly took Pollyanna in then Pollyanna knows that she is definitely going to take the kitten waif! Miss Polly is speechless! (She abhors cats.) Next comes the dog!Why doesn't Aunt Polly want Pollyanna to take the calf's foot jelly to Mr. Pendleton after he breaks his leg? John Pendleton and Aunt Polly both loved someone years ago. Was it each other? Nancy and Pollyanna thinks so!This story, whilst truly delightful, is a little too old for young kids with all the talk of lovers. Accents also make it harder for the younger crowd to follow. Great read for young adults and adults. The 'Glad Game' is a great lesson for everyone!**************************************************************************************POLLYANNA GROWS UP Review:Ruth is a widow and miserable although according to her sister she doesn't need to be as there is physically nothing wrong with her. Della declares that what she needs is a dose of Pollyanna! Della had met Pollyanna and her "GLAD" game at the sanatorium when Pollyanna had lost the use of her legs. Even though Pollyanna has the use of her legs back she is still not able to run fast at the beginning of this book. Dr. Chilton is now married to Aunt Polly and the couple are going to Germany for a season so Pollyanna needs a home.As usual, her new 'patient' Ruth is overwhelmed and often aggravaated by Pollyanna. Finding herself living in the middle of Boston, Pollyanna heads to the local gardens. Never meeting a stranger how does she unknowingly help a man just out of prison by giving him a new perspective? Getting lost poses no real problem to her as she says, "I'm going to be glad I'm lost 'cause it'll be so nice when I get found. I can be GLAD for that!" Actually getting lost turns out to be a blessing. When she finds Jamie, has she found Ruth's long lost nephew? The beginning of this book sees Pollyanna at age 13-14. Then before Chapter 16 there is a break of 6 years and we next see Pollyanna at the age of 20. Aunt Polly and her are returning to Beldingsville. Sadly the doctor has died and their finances are dire. Jimmy is still around but wondering if Pollyanna sill plays the GLAD game. Pollyanna still believes that she is not pretty and will never marry. She is dreaming of work she can do to help earn money. What opportunity comes her way?Pollyanna is a breath of fresh air. Yes, she can be a little over the top sometimes but with so much "stuff" going on in the world right now we can all use a dose of Pollyanna! The second book in the series is a delightful read, having a wonderful ending. I purchased both Pollyanna and Pollyanna Grows Up for my Kindle. I was not required to write a review but chose to do so. Thanks, Liz

Glad I read it
I know this story is a children's book and very Disney-esque, but it's hard to dislike a book that makes you so happy.

I SAW THE MOVIE IN 1960...
Lately I have been reading a number of books on The Law of Attraction, such as The Secret and the many works of Napolean Hill on this subject. In them, much is said about being grateful in life, and how being grateful, even for what little you might think you currently have will, through The Law of Attraction, bring you even more things to be grateful for. Then I remembered how, at age 8, I fell in love with the movie version of this book and determined how I wanted to be just like Pollyana, the main character of this book who, despite many things she could easily have been sad about, instead found something in every even negative thing she could be glad for.As I continue on my journey e y of discovering how to bring The Law of Attraction to bear on my life, I can say I am glad I thought to revisit this story-- to remind myself of how positive and grateful I had long ag o determined I was going to be.Over years of many disappointments, I had forgotten how to be grateful, and I now see how instead of The Law of Attraction bringing more into my life to be grateful for,the universe simply brought more into my life to be ungrateful for.I am turning all that around now, and I feel the changes that remembering to be grateful have already begun to bring into my life again, just as they did when I was so much younger. If you are on the path to discovering what The Law of Attraction can do in your life, I highly recommend this simple story of The Law of Attraction put into practice.

Pollyanna review
When I was about 12 I read this book for the first time and complained about it to no end because I found Pollyanna to be quite annoying at the time. Now, several years later, I decided to try out this book once more, and I can say my views on it have changed. I will admit that when Pollyanna was first introduced I feared that she would be just as annoying as I remembered her to be, but within the next few chapters these fears were quenched and so I continued on with the story. When I was younger I didn't understand what this book was trying to say and it frustrated me to no end as to why Pollyanna was so happy all the time. Now I understand what this story is trying to say and I can now appreciate it; especially the characters. I liked the characters personalities and how even when they started to be more glad they were still themselves. I didn't give this book a 5 star rating because it didn't strike a cord within me that made me absolutely love it, so I gave it a 4 star rating instead. I would recommend this book to people who need more happiness in their lives and maybe could learn a thing or two from this story. I would not recommend this book to people to people who don't like literature.
