Works great for hide glue
Awesome glue pot. Keeps the glue at an optimum temperature all the time. Even when you take it off the heater, the glue keeps its temperature due to the water jacket around. The glue did not change the color and does not stick to the metal either. Glue peels off as soon as it dries up. My only quibble: why not making it a bit larger? When working on a project, the last think I want is an unneeded stop when I run out of glue. Looks cool though.

Proper temperature control
I like design and size for my needs but I had to flatten the bottom of the glue pot because it wobbles badly. I used scrap wood when I turned it over so not to damage handle and used brass hammer to hammer flat. The biggest issue was the platter heated to high, 165*. Ended up putting 100 grit sandpaper on platter under the pot; now it stays at 145*.

Basically a good product with a few minor flaws
Overall, this hot glue pot is a good product. I gave it only three stars as it does have a few failings. I am reviewing it after using it for approximately one month. The product works as advertised at this point. Preheating the water on the stove or in the microwave prior to use will considerably speed up the process of having the glue hot and ready for use.A couple of notes on use. To save constantly under filling or over filling the outer bucket with water, I measured and found that 23 ounces of water is the perfect amount. No need for trial and error. I fill a quart jar with tap water and microwave it for approximately 90 seconds or 1 minute 30 seconds. This heated the water to a temperature (between 140 and 150 degrees Fahrenheit. An instant read thermometer will help you to find the right time for your own microwave. If you have not used hide glue before, a note on its use and storage. Some instructions tell you that you have to dispose of any remaining hide glue after a week. When not in use, the hide glue is best stored in the refrigerator. As long as you are using the hide glue at least once every few days or so, no need to worry about the hide glue spoiling. Heating it up kills anything that might want to grow in it. When heating, remember not to heat it beyond the temperature stated on the product label. If you have some questions about the use of hide glue, there are several YouTube videos online that provide good tutorials on its use and storage. Why three stars?1. The glue pot itself does not have a flat bottom and is unstable sitting on any surface when not in the larger pot. The actual glue pot is made of quite thick brass so it tends to hold the heat well on its own. At least for 5 minutes.2. The outer pot is made of thin brass and so does not help hold the heat itself.3. In the picture of the product notice there is a bail on both the inner pot and the outer pot. The bail on the inner pot interferes with easy removal of the lid on the inner pot. I very carefully bent the tabs on the inner pot out enough so that the inner pot lid can be removed and replaced without difficulty. If you follow my lead, be extremely careful in bending these tabs as these tabs are not that sturdy and you can easily end up breaking off the tab! You may also have to do the same with the outer pot bail tabs in order for everything to work properly.

Very pretty, but the lid didn't fit
Very pretty, but the lid didn't fit, and the marble looking part got very hot, and seemed to be, if not a full fire hazard, at least a melt the carpet on your bench hazard. Barring those two things, if you use so much hide glue that you keep the pot warm all day, adding glue and water as needed, this pot would work. Modern shops use some variation of sealing the hot glue in a glass jar and putting it in the refrigerator. When needed the jar goes into the hot water of the glue pot and in 10 or fifteen minutes is ready to use. The brass water pot opening is too small for a functional size of glass jar. The brass glue pot has a lid that doesn't seal and is vastly top heavy, so that it won't stand up reliably in the fridge. If you just need a glue pot for show, while you actually use PVR on your work, this is the pot for you.

The best glue pot I have seen for luthiers and other crafts people.
This is a great little glue pot for instrument makers and other fine woodworking. It holds anywhere from 1/2oz to 3oz. of liquid glue so there is minimal waste. Some other reviewers have complained that the warmer does not do a good job of heating up a batch of glue. This is because the warmer is designed to maintain your glue at the perfect working temperature, which it does, and not necessarily for heating up cold glue. It will do that eventually but if you need your glue in less than a couple of hours, you should use a hot plate and a 6 dollar candy thermometer to get the glue up to working temperature then set the pot on the warmer to have usable glue all day long. All in all this is a well designed and well made pot that should last for generations.

Hot hide glue problems solved
This is a great pot that will, as it says, last a lifetime or several. Some clarifications:1) The hot plate is, in fact, plenty hot enough. Just perfect, in fact. It's just that if you are starting at a low temp, it will take a while. The instructions say "40 minutes". Better to start with hot water. I heat water up to about 150, and then let the hot plate take over from there. I did a test and left it there for many hours, and it was still exactly 145 degrees hours later. Anything between 135 and 160 is fine, anyway. But this heater seems to keep it at exactly 145, in a room with 75 degree ambient temperature.2) The pot lids and pieces fit together perfectly, without a hitch.3) The capacity of the inner pot is about 3 ounces.4) The whole package comes with a great set of instructions and commentary typed up personally by the luthier who puts this together.5) The hide glue that comes with the package is 192 g strength, the generally recommended strength for guitar building.
