Garmin 010-12843-00 Speed Sensor 2, Bike Sensor to Monitor Speed, Black

This works great with the app. I first used a Garmin for step counting. Then I got into biking and the steps didn't register. This works great registering bike workouts on the app! The other bike device for motion sold by Garmin doesn't work on the app and you must ONLY buy this one to have the app working with the bike. I love it and use it daily.

This is my second Speed Sensor 2 from Amazon. First unit purchased last year. Sold and shipped via Amazon. Sync'd with Gamin Connect app. Upgraded firmware. Using the sensor with a 3rd party cycling computer. Zero issues. The second unit I purchased was sold by a 3rd party vendor and shipped by Amazon. I had all sorts of problems with this unit. Problem #1. The unit came up on Garmin Connect app with an odd name. The correct name should be Speed Sensor 2. This unit came up as BSG 2 SPD(?). (I'm not 100% certain what the name was. The unit has already been returned to Amazon.) Problem #2. I could not update the firmware on the sensor. Tried multiple times, got multiple failures. Problem #3. I tried sync'ing the sensor to my cycling computer and it would sporadically send speed info. I have this weird feeling that this is some sort of counterfeit product. Problem #1 and #2 are dead giveaways for counterfeit products. I wrote this review to alert potential buyer to be on the lookout for counterfeit products. My overall rating is based on the legit Speed Sensor I purchased last year. It really works well.

Works great. Long battery life. Hugs center wheel axle well. Only weird issue is configuring it from my watch looks different than configuring it from app - meaning the wheel size. After reaching out to Garmin, I did a wheel out measurement and inputted that into my watch.

Strap it to my bike wheel and it works. I use it mostly for Zwift, but it also works with my cycling computer and phone. It's accurate and doesn't drop connectivity like my Wahoo Blue SC used to. Uses CR2032 button cells which are okay. It's still on it's first battery after a couple months. Note: If you have never used an ANT or BTLE device before, you have to wake it up by rotating the wheel. You don't really pair it like a normal bluetooth headset. Your device just detects it and you say, "Yeah that's the one."

Got this for my phone and Garmin Edge 25 computer. Sensor is slightly cheaper than Wahoo sensor. Item was easy to install but the rubber mount is pretty thin and while it doesn’t feel cheap I am curious to see how long it lasts. The sensor itself is very light and was very easy to pair with my phone via Bluetooth. Pairing with my Garmin Edge 25 was a tad tricky and did require me to reset my computer initially to pair correctly. Initially the accuracy seemed a tad off but after a few rides it seemed to calibrate itself. I will say the speed read out is a tad slow to update. When cycling and coming to a full stop the computer still will read MPH if I wear cycling at a very low speed for a moment. Overall probably not 100% needed if you have a computer but could be more accurate especially in areas with poor GPS signal

Connected right away with a strong signal. I use this with a resistance trainer for Zwift and it works perfectly. I bought this to replace a cheap, off-brand sensor that I got bundled with a trainer. I absolutely love the trainer, but the speed sensor had terrible battery life and stopped working after 350 miles. So far so good with this one. I have high hopes. I've had nothing but good experiences with Garmin. I LOVE my 935. It's never let me down during triathlon training and I'm sure this sensor will be no different.

Garmin is Garmin. If it is not broken out of the box, it just works. This sensor works great with Garmin Fenix 3 watch as well as with ANT+ USB adapter, and it is detected by Zwift app on Windows 10 automatically. I've placed it on the rear hub of my bike that is 1" in diameter, the rubber belt is long enough for that. It would be easier to place it on front hub that has smaller diameter on most bikes, but the rear hub is the only place to put it to use with a bike trainer indoors. Anyway, being placed on the rear hub, it does not have signal dropouts when used either with the watch placed at the handlebar, or with ANT+ USB adapter placed at the front fork. So I believe I can leave it on the rear hub for the summer season.

This is a good device, it's easy to attach to the bike and very simple to use. The manual seems to expect you to already know what you're doing so personally I'd search the web for some help setting up. I did, and I'm fine. It does work with the phone app but for best results you should definitely interface it directly with your Garmin device - ie smart watch. I have a Vivoactive 3 and it's a great companion to give me speed monitoring when I'm using my bike trainer indoors. Remember that it takes 2 rotations to switch on. So when training, jump on your trainer, do a few pedal strokes and stop... then set your watch running.

I was a bit worried after reading all the negative reviews about pairing problems. However, for my purposes, it works perfectly. I use the speed sensor on a bike trainer with my Vivoactive 4. I just start pedaling to wake up the sensor, select indoor biking on my watch and it pairs immediately. It appears to track speed and distance accurately, but I have no way of knowing for sure. I've never had the device disconnect during usage.
