The Bungalow Mystery (Nancy Drew, Book 3)

still good stories
I never read the Nancy Drew series when I was young. So, I discovered this series via HER computer games. I decided to read the books. These books were written in the 1930's. Writing styles have changed since then. There is no profanity, sex, or gore. So, I guess "modern" readers would find them drab and boring. I, however, am enjoying them very much. It also gives me a glimpse in a by-gone age where people cleaned up for dinner. Ate dinner as a family and exchanged one's thoughts and problems. The mystery aspect is pretty good. These books were written for young readers, so some of the plots may seem pretty tame or even lame by today's standards. These books are no match for Agatha Christie, of course. All in all, this 69 year old is enjoying reading how our young sleuth solves mysteries. If you're tired of the "modern" fare, sit down and enjoy one of these quick reads.

we'd all like to be like Nancy
See if you can get the "Bungalow Mystery" in an Applegate edition, which preserves the original language and attitudes of the 30s. The updated versions are fine too, but the originals, although fixed in an earlier period, are remarkable for their descriptive, exact language. Carefully plotted and deftly written, the "Bungalow Mystery" finds Nancy coming to the aid of a new friend who has rescued her during a storm on the lake near her summer camp. There is the trademark Carolyn Keene blend of exciting situations and Nancy's remarkable resourcefulness. I recommend all the NancyDrew yarns to the girls of my piano studio. Wholesome and winsome, Nancy has aged well, and continues to delight young readers.

This is an interesting story about a young lady who rescued Nancy and Helen from the raging storm and sea. Then Nancy helped solved the young lady whose parents had passed away and when she met two guardians who were abusive to her that she ran away. So read they rest of the story on how Nancy solved this mystery.

Nancy Drew for Life!!
This Nancy Drew adventure was very nicely done and in true ND style, she got in plenty of trouble. Carolyn Keene never failed at creating a sense of peril that is palpable. If you're new to ND I'd suggest that you start from the first story to the next as the previous mystery is always referenced in some way in the following story. Have fun getting the know the original girl sleuth!

An awesome book.
I love the Nancy drew series and have read the books is before this. The other books caught me in straight away but unfortunately this one took longer for me to get addicted. It really made me deal like I was there. It is great for mystery lobsters! I did not rate this 5 star because I felt it was not quite as good as the other books. Hi u will defiantly be buying more!
