Outstanding Gaming Headset for the Professional or Casual Gamer! (Xbox One Version)
Let me first start out by saying I am a casual gamer. I've been playing Xbox One for the last few years and decided to get this head set for that particular gaming system. This is a great gaming headset! I upgraded from my Turtle Beach headset that served me very well for many years. Here is what I liked and did not like about the Astro A50. Pros: Great sound: Customizable pre-sets and default presets make this headset ideal for those that want to tweak their headset settings. You can easily adjust settings on this headset by using the free Astro app on any Windows PC or Apple OS computer. You can also select one of three headsets loaded on the headset by simply pushing the preset button. This cycles through three presets on the headset (1-3). Great feel: This headset is lightweight. You can easily wear this for 8+ hours during those long gaming sessions and still not get fatigued by wearing it. While the headset is lightweight it is still built very very well and feel solid. You won't feel like you can easily break this headset which for the price point is a good thing. The headset also does not pinch or make my head uncomfortable in anyway and if measured out I have a large head. Wireless: The headset is 100% wireless. The only time you will need to have the headset docked is for charging. There is no cables to get in the way between you and the gaming controller or the gaming console. The freedom is nice. With the wireless capabilities also comes outstanding range. When wearing the headset I can literally go to any area of my apartment and still hear voice and game sounds. It's also nice not being tethered to your controller or console. If you've never experience true wireless gaming this will be mind blowing for you--it was for me. Mic: While some reviews have posted complaints about the mic quality I have had really no issues with the mic. I am careful with it and raise and lower it with ease as to not damage the mechanism. The mic is turned on and off by raising and lowering. Up is in the off/mute position and down is in the on/voice position. No complaints from anyone in my gaming party on not being able to hear me either. You may need to carefully bend the end of the mic inward to your face a bit for best results. Keep in mind that if you do this the mic will hit the headset in the off/mute position so be careful not to damage it. While it would be nice to have a switch to tap to turn the mic on or off it is also nice to have the mic up out of the way for those solo gaming sessions or if you don't feel like being social during a particular gaming session. Cons: Adjusting in game and voice chat volume: While there is a "rocker switch" to adjust game and voice chat sound it is often confusing and I find myself constantly looking to see which way I should push the switch to adjust either the game volume or voice chat volume. This is especially true if I don't use the headset for several weeks between gaming sessions. Again, I am a casual gamer so this is my experience. Opinions on this will vary! Overall volume: It is nice to be able to easily raise or lower overall sound volume. This is game volume and voice chat volume. The downside to the particular way this headset's volume control works is that it's on a round dial. This dial is too easily manipulated especially if you are resting in a reclined position. I find myself inadvertently lowering the volume in the middle of a gaming session and then I need to remove one hand from the gaming controller to re-adjust the volume control. This is a drawback to the design but not a deal breaker. If you never game in a reclined position you very well may never experience an issue with this! Overall this is light years ahead of any basic headset and even more advanced in many ways over the competitors top end headset models. If you are a serious or casual gamer this is a headset that you should check-out and you'll probably realize that this is the route to go. Thanks for reading!

Great Idea, poor execution
Purchased October 26, 2019. This will be the 3rd pair I will receive on warranty at some point over the next few weeks. Having owned and still own the Astro Gen 3, I am overwhelmingly disappointed. The Gen 3 has a transmission issue on the 2.4ghz frequency (which is a known problem). In a house hold with multiple WiFi devices at this frequency, the headset would drop connection in the middle of gaming. So I decided to purchase the next iteration in this line which is the Gen 4 (also purchased the mod kit for sound deadening). After a week or so, the headset would crackle. Not bad at first but more of an annoyance. As time progressed, this would become worse. The headset would shut on and off without warning in the middle of working or gaming. Contacted AstroGaming, checked several areas of concern (like firmware updates), and nothing changed with the exception of the Astro Command Center now alerting me every time I turned on my PC that the headset and/or base station were out of date. Astro warrantied the first one. After receiving the second headset, similar issues happened but this time the new base station stopped working and would not connect. I took the original base station, plugged that into the PC tower and the headset started to work again. But now, using the second headset with the original base station, the original issues started to happen again but more frequently. I would watch the base station turn off then on again while I was streaming media online. I am now on the 3rd replacement which has not arrived yet. I have installed the headset on other systems at the house to only have the same issues. My PC is fairly new, custom built around the beginning of 2018 (ASRock z370 Taichi, i7 8700k, 64gb Ram, 1080TI 11gb MSI GPU) Conclusion: At this price point, there should not be any issues. Not being a disgruntled consumer, but having the same issue on multiple head sets, I would look elsewhere. I cannot recommend this headset as the quality is just not there in terms of functionality. (I am still dead set on a wireless headset having used the Corsair RBG Void, as well as Logitech G935 Wireless). I will be looking for a new solution once the 3rd replacement set of the Astro Gen4 arrives). Hope this review helps! JRei

Great Headset
I bought this headset to replace my Turtle Beach Elite 800x headset mostly hoping it wouldn’t make my ears hurt so much after a long gaming session. I’m happy to say these are extremely comfortable headsets and I’m very pleased with them overall. They sound good. I think they get plenty loud - I usually have them set about halfway. They were easy to setup. I love the look and the customization with the command center. They get excellent battery life, I've never dropped below 50% charge even after gaming most of the day away. And again, I can’t stress how comfortable these things are. -- Below is the original story -- This is a great headset and I will give it 5 stars once a very simple problem is fixed. The headset will not be recognized by Xbox after the Xbox is turned on. To get the headset to be recognized you have to either unplug and re-plugin the base station or switch the mode switch to PC and back to Xbox. Unfortunately I see forum posts about this going all the way back to the gen3 version in 2016 so I decided to leave a 1-star review in the hopes it might actually motivate ASTRO to finally fix it. Update 8/21/19: I reached out to customer support. They said that they are currently working on a fix for the connection issue but there is no estimate when the update would be released. They at least seemed to know exactly what problem I was referring to so hopefully it’s resolves in not too long. Update 11/23/19 Customer support ended in a dead end. The Xbox connection issue still persists. I've been trying every so often to check if there's a firmware update but there never is. It seems that support for this brand new product is already discontinued. Final Update 12/7/19 I reached out to customer support again and was given a version of firmware to install manually on my headset. I did as instructed and the problem is now resolved. I have not had any more issues with needing to reset the headset to get it to connect to Xbox. It's unclear if this update is published publicly yet (I never got any prompt to update through the command center) so if you're having this issue reach out to their customer support.

Worth the price and exactly what I needed
I've had an Astro a40 wired gaming headset for years so I was already familiar with the brand. $300 is a lot to spend on something so do your research and read the reviews both positive and negative. My personal experience is 100% positive. I wanted them solely for my PC since the a40's are in a different area of the room hooked up to the Xbox/Playstation/TV and having to unhook and reconnect every time I want to use the headphones is a hassle. Setting the a50's up to the PC took less than 30 seconds. Seriously. I simply connected the micro-usb to the base, connected the USB end to a free slot on my PC tower, turned the headphones on and viola! Windows 10 recognized the plug and play of a set of headphones and I was up and going in less than a minute. (Granted I made sure the toggle on the base was set to "PC" before I plugged everything in and turned it on) Sound quality is excellent. Just what I expected from a set of $300 astro gaming headphones. If you want to say anything on the mic, you just swing the arm down and it unmutes. Swing it back if you want to mute. Easy. Now, they are a wee bit tight when you first put them on but give it a good session of gaming and you'll be fine. You can adjust the volume by either using the dial on the right side of the headset or simply changing the volume via your PC controls. Battery life is advertised at being 15 hours of life before it needs a charge. I was able to use it for a few hours right out of the box. The charging base tells you how much battery life you have left via the 4 lighted squares on the base (see pic). I haven't used up all the juice yet and it has seemed to hold up nicely. The charging is super easy. The headset will sit on the base and if charging is initiated the squares will light up and indicate how much charge the battery has by how many lights are shown. Just charge them after you get done using them (like you would with your phone) and you'll be ready to go the next time you want to use them. Some additional features include: the cloth ear cups are removeable if you want to clean them or purchase the mod kit that has leather ear cups. Astro provides a free 2 year license of Dolby Atmos for headphones which is useful for all of those Call of Duty players. Range is VERY nice. With other wireless headsets you have a range at which you can walk away from the receiver before you lose the signal. I was able to walk three rooms away and go outside before I started to notice signal loss. That is about 50' (15m) through walls and around corners. *Just make sure you mute before you go to the bathroom* $300 is a lot to throw down for a nice pair of headphones. But these are worth the price.

A great headset with some flaws...but what headset doesnt? :)
About 3 hours into using and i noticed No more loss/drop of sound like previous gen 3! Very comfortable. The large soundstage is incredible on xbox. Earcup material is not as comfortable as steel series but thats a small thing. The astro sound is now beyond and more immersive than what previous gens produced. Netrual color is bad ass. Not as mid range punchy as the arctis 9x or pro but more bass punch. Sound stage is bigger but the arctis 9x and pro have better directional pin point. Update: Tuesday aug 13 A few days later i updated the firmware and i am now experiencing not sound drop but a sound hiccup for a split second every 8-15 minutes or sometimes once an hour. A immersion killer for sure. Going to try to sort this out. I will update soon. Update weds aug 14 The hiccups are few and far in between. The xbox doesnt recognized the base station. I have to turn on the xbox, unplug and re plug the headset in before sound comes out. :( hope these issues get handled soon. Sound and comfort is still a 5 but the problems after the firmware update have brought this down to a 4 star over all. Update aug 16 1 week later the sound drop hiccups are brief(split second)but frequent and bring you out of immersion. I experience the similar thing with the arctis 9x but much much less frequent(is this an xbox x bug?). I prefer the arctis 9x sound, fit, and directional sound pin point for most shooters. For adventure games the astro takes the win. For edge in competitive the arctis.. I have both and spent waaayy too much on headsets. Choose one they both kick ass hahha

Uncomfortable, unreliable, overpriced.
Are these decent? Yes. Are they overpriced? Yes. I bought mine for around $250. UNCOMFORTABLE Wearing these for a few hours can give you that sore-scalp kinda feeling and also put pressure around your ears. The ear muffs are a fabric that love to pick up your own hair (so be sure to clean them if someone else wants to use them as it's kinda gross seeing a ton of your own hair on the ear muffs). UNRELIABLE I play on Xbox One and probably 10% of the time these have issues which require a significant amount of time to trouble shoot. 10% might not sound like a lot but trust me when I tell you it is enough to drive you insane. I like reliable products and for the price I paid this is NOT reliable. For example, sometimes the mic itself does not work and you need to unplug the USB and plug it back in and restart the headset. Sometimes the headset does not charge when seated properly in the charging station. The best way I found to fix this is to do a hard reset which usually works. The charging station itself is finicky and only charges the headset when you place them EXACTLY where they need to be. NOT a drop-and-forget style for charging. OVERPRICED Shroud uses a Logitech headset, that is like $150 at most, if I recall... if that's a good enough price point for a professional gamer then why should I (a non-professional gamer) be spending well over that? The two buttons on the right ear muff for adjusting game volume and voice volume are not intuitive; sometimes I press them and I'm not sure if it actually did anthing. Press them too long and it cranks the volume. They are kind of a guessing game. Does this give you super-human hearing to pin-point the exact locations of enemies sneaking up on you? Not in my experience... I even tried making unique sound profiles with the application from tutorials on youtube but was unable to notice a signficant improvement. What if you activate the 2-year Dolby Atoms card that comes with it? I activated it and noticed maybe a little improvment in the sound though I am not even certain... hard to tell really. I will be returning these and probably trying out a Logitech headset.

Tried three of the top rated headsets this one is by far the best
I bought Razer Nari headphones and within a week they stopped working, then I researched headphones and went with the cheaper SteelSeries Arctis 9x and they couldn't stay connected to anything to save their life. Then I bit the bullet and bought a pair of these... These headphones do everything they are advertised to do and more. They are comfortable, they are well made and feel light weight on my head, the ear cups do not make your head sweaty, the sound quality is amazing, and the mic is clear with no lag. I know its a ton of money for gaming headphones but trust me if you are thinking about them at all they are a worthy purchase. You will not regret it. Pros: By far the best headset I have purchased. Comfort Sound Ease of use Mic Quality Cons: Time for the nit pickiness. You need to buy a mic cover if you plan to play or talk anywhere near a fan or AC unit. Which for a $300 headset shouldn't be an issue. The only cords that come with it are an optic cable and a USB to Mini USB plug that provides both power and audio (in PC mode) or just power (Xbox mode). I would have liked it to come with an Aux cable. The USB port on the back is labeled charge and when I plugged my phone into it hoping to get the headset to work with my phone all it did was slow charge my phone. This could have been an awesome place for a USB 3 connection or a USB C port with audio. I wish it had any kind of Bluetooth compatibility so I could just wirelessly connect my phone to it as well. Having to connect my phone through the Aux port is a bit strange in this era of wirelessness, I am still waiting on an aux cable to see if I will be able to use this headset for making a phone call as well or not (stay tuned for that update).

Massive drop in quality and poor customer service
I owned the previous generation of this headset and it worked perfectly for over 7 years. So when it came time to replace them I figured it was worth the price. Unfortunately, there seems to have been a significant drop in quality from the previous generation. The headset I received had a couple of issues. First, the left headphone would emit a constant, high-pitched buzzing noise whenever it was on. The second issue was that the plastic headband would pop open whenever I was wearing it. Which was uncomfortable and made the headset sit crooked on my head. I reached out to customer support when I had the chance, and they sent me a replacement. However, not only did the headband still not stay on correctly, but the battery was faulty and the headset will not work if it is not plugged in, meaning it can not be used wireless. I contacted customer support again, went back and forth for weeks about the issue, being told I would be sent another headset, only to be told weeks later that it was out of warranty and they would not be replacing the product that THEY sent to replace my broken product. I was offered a replacement headset twice, and when I accepted, both times the offer was immediately revoked, but I was offered a discount to purchase another headset. So if you also receive a broken product, they will use bait-and-switch tactics to try to get you to purchase another headset. Do not waste your money on these.
