KUTSUWA Hi LiNE T'GAAL Angle Adjustable Pencil Sharpener (RS028CL)

I'm new to using colored pencils so have had to do a lot of experimenting to find all the right supplies. Since I'm new at this I use Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils. I like their price point, their soft wax core, color selection, availability of open stock, and how smoothly color lays down. I'm still learning how to blend them but all in all they are my pencil of choice. Because of their wax core I discovered that it's all too easy to break off their points when sharpening them. Even using the Prismacolor sharpener, too much of my pencil dissolved into shavings and the point breaking off in the sharpener no matter how gentle I was. That was until I decided to purchase the Kutsuwa Stad T'Gaal adjustable sharpener. I saw it recommended on a colored pencil forum and decided to give it a try. Best decision I made! It is so easy to use. You dial in the length of the point you desire (1-5) and as you sharpen the action is so gentle you hardly believe the pencil is being sharpened but it is. If you like the short point you see when you get fresh pencils you just set the dial to 1. I prefer a little longer point for more detailed work so I set my dial to 2 or 3. Since using this sharpener not one pencil tip has broken off and my pencils last much longer. The sharpener is easy to use, open and keep clean, is made of lightweight plastic and is small so it easily fits into a case to take along with you. I like it so much I plan on buying a few more so I'm never without this sharpener. If you use soft core wax pencils like Prismacolor Premier I can't recommend this sharpener highly enough but I'm sure it works just as well on graphite and harder more clay less wax core pencils. These sharpeners are simply the best! This purchase is my second one and I doubt I will ever purchase any other brand or style of sharpener. I love the fact that the sharpening angle can be adjusted. The sharpness is fantastic and remains sharp. I am buying a second one just to have another and not because the first one wore out or broke. Buy this one.

Terrific sharpener. Perfect for my colored pencils. Sharpens cleanly, perfect points, easy to use. Nice and compact. Easy to use and clean.

This is a lovely pocket sized sharpener that will do wonders for your colored pencils in a pinch, but it's not for me. It's simple to use, and made well enough that it should last. It slices through wood like butter, and sharpens easily and beautifully, with a lovely smooth motion. Unfortunately, it won't stop sharpening. I'm used to auto-stop sharpeners that will stop once the tip hits a certain point - this doesn't do that. My Swordfish and CARL sharpeners, while larger and also more expensive, do a better job at getting a great point without taking a half inch off of my pencil. It does work well, but you've got to use a lot of care to make sure you're not over-sharpening and being wasteful.

Best sharpener I’ve tried so far for expensive colored pencils. It’s a perfect fit for your typical size pencil (decreases wobbling or one-sided sharpening), has 5 lengths to choose from, and is small and light but sturdy. It’s also less expensive than all the other sharpeners I have. You will have to replace it after quite a bit of use, but that’s the case with all sharpeners.

The T'Gaal pencil sharpener is the ONLY one that offers five different options for how sharp your pencil points come out just by turning the dial. This sharpener is gentle on the leads of colored pencils (especially Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils). Because of this, you won't have a huge problem with lead breakage whenever you sharpen your colored pencils. The plastic material that this sharpener is made of seems to be amazingly strong. (I once accidentally dropped mine and it didn't even break)! The only downside to this pencil sharpener is that it needs to be emptied quite often because the housing for the pencil shavings is SO small. The T'gaal Multisharpener IS an expensive sharpener, BUT if you want a sharpener that won't break your expensive colored pencil leads, then this sharpener is the right one to buy. 5 STARS ALL THE WAY!!!

I had some before and lost it but these are really good for sketching for me. I don't use the other modes but one but I love how well it sharpens!

I bought the clear colored pencil sharpener for sharpening my colored pencils and it works great. I used them on Faber Castell and Prismacolors and both were able to get very sharp with minimal breakage. I would suggest for artists to not sharpen them too much because there will be some breakage at that point. The toggle to change the angle of sharpness comes in handy for that purpose. The opening to empty the pencil sharpener may be slightly difficult to use for those with mobility issues (I injured my thumb so I can’t do it smoothly) but I was able to get it open. The green color pencil is one I didn't sharpen, and the other pencils were sharpened using this sharpener. The red pencil’s wood was damaged a while ago and I was never able to sharpen it with anything else without the wood splitting even further but this sharpener works!
