This Book Made William Look Like a Selfish Playboy and Catherine Look Like a Doormat.
This book does not cast Catherine nor William in a positive light and it's not the Fairy Tale Hallmark Channel Movie about a commoner meeting a Prince that everyone thinks.William broke up with Catherine no less that three times in order to play the field. When no one wanted him at any price, he came back to a woman who had no job, no career, no identity outside of being his girlfriend. And she seemed to be in absolutely no rush to have a job, or a career or an identity outside of being his girlfriend. We get it. Prince William had a rough go of it because his parents couldn't grow up and act mature about their marriage and losing his mother at age 15 and being left to be raised by a man as selfish and self centered as the Prince of Wales was no sinecure. But good looks and a hatred of the press were the only things he inherited from Diana. Being raised by the Prince of Wales clearly shows on William: stubborn, self entitled and selfish to the very core of his being. The book clearly notes how William pursued women who didn't want him and was pursued by women he didn't want. It's not like he had his pick or he never would have picked up with Catherine Middleton no matter how much money her parents made selling party clutter.Catherine for her part, clearly set her sights on him the minute she was allowed entree into the "Glosse Posse"; a circle of rich, titled, selfish, snotty, toffee nosed offspring of royal courtiers. And without attaching to the coattails of a girl in the posse, Catherine would never have stood a chance. The book claims Catherine did not know where William was going to college or spend his Gap Year. My foot. Her intel from the Glosse Posse told her about the Chile expedition and where he planned to go to college. Otherwise, why would she have given up her place at University of Edinburgh at the last minute with no back up school, and plan a Gap Year to Italy and then to Chile herself two weeks after William finished his stint there? She also found out, through the Posse what hall he would be staying in during his first year and where did Catherine choose? St. Salvatore's Hall one floor below the Prince. Coincidence? Not on your life.I appreciate gumption just as much as the next person but the book makes Catherine look like a predator whose sole mission was to land Prince William and there was Carole Middleton in the background writing the checks for the clothes, the Gap Year expeditions, and other costs along the way and Pippa enjoying every bit of it.When they graduated from St. Andrews, every one of their friends got busy having a life and having a career. Catherine only got busy auditioning for the role of William's wife and he clearly stated he wasn't going to get married for a long time.In the almost ten years of being at William's beck and call, Catherine worked one job: A four day a week accessories buyer for a company owned by people she met through connections she'd made through her parents. She called the owner up and skillfully utilized her fame as William's girlfriend to score a job that others would have willingly competed for and worked over 40 hours a week for.She never had to worry about rent on the tony Chelsea apartment because her parents bought it for her and Pippa. She didn't have to be concerned about maintenance costs, groceries, or health club memberships or credit card bills because these were all footed by Mum and Dad. Then Pippa moved in and began to take advantage of the party invitations and other get togethers from people connected to William, she parlayed that into a nice, well paid job for herself which she thoroughly enjoyed.During the nine months she "worked" at Jigsaw, she took no less than three luxurious vacations to Ibiza, Mustique and Desroches. When she and William broke up, she got a week's "Compassionate Leave" from work. But it appeared like she was finally finding herself. She started working out more and being part of a charity row team and reconnecting with girlfriends she'd jettisoned off in favor of being a "Royal Girlfriend".Pippa and Carole frantically worked behind the scenes and made sure there was no shortage of tabloid photos of Catherine looking gorgeous and partying it up without William in order to show him "what he was missing". It worked because within two months, he was calling her again and they got back together with a promise that "one day" they would marry.Instead of putting on a show of her photography work as she had planned to do while separated from William and instead of participating in the charity rowing event, Catherine backed out of both and took a luxurious vacation to Desroches in the Seychelles to celebrate getting back together. She quit her job shortly after that and sat around, went shopping, worked out, dodged the press, visited Mustique two or three times a year and then, when the Queen of England expressed her displeasure at her frequent holidays and apparent lack of career, she got involved in charity work all while waiting for the magical day when she would get her hands on Diana's sapphire engagement ring. There is little in this book to recommend either William or Catherine. He seems like a petulant, spoiled boy who never wanted to settle down, get married and do his bit regarding Royal Duties and Catherine looks like she never had any dream but one and that was to be Mrs. Future Queen. It all looked far too calculating on her part. She was meticulous in doing everything right: Most 19 year old girls do not know how to keep their mouths shut in regards to a celebrity boyfriend, but Catherine never breathed a word...she let her Uncle Gary shoot his mouth off and embarrass the family instead. She never partied too hard, never slept around, dressed just provocatively enough to capture William's attention and the attention of other males just to make sure William understood just how attractive and desired she was. She was obsessive about being fit and slim, barely eating most of the time. And she absolutely put her career, likes, dislikes, and who she was on hold in case the phone rang and William was on the other line. Everything she did, each decision she made, what she wore, what she ate, where she went and what she did was all with William in mind as the ultimate goal. All to be the future Queen of England? To live a life shaking hands, opening medical centers, wearing dippy hats and being at the side of a husband who CLEARLY dislikes the royal duties imposed upon him but isn't about to give up the role of being the future King of England? The book tried very very hard not to make Catherine's road to Duchess-hood look like it was something that she pursued relentlessly and meticulously but the author failed parlously. This is no story of a commoner and a prince who met cute and suddenly and passionately fell in love. This book reads like no one else wanted him so he kept going back to the only woman who did and resigned himself to marriage much the way his father did before him.

Another rewrite of Cambridge news often read, seen and heard
When you see an author or an actor-actress on various TV shows one after another flooding their products with one or two points you begin to wonder why the need for all the publicity. I find on most occasions the product is poor and as much exposure possible is necessary to push sales. In this case it's an absolute. The book featured two sets of pictures, all of which I have seen multiple times. The written material was rehash from previous written materials. There were a couple of items referred to as new and somewhat surprising for which, now several weeks later, I am unable to remember.I think the author sat in front of her PC, sorted previous clippings and web items and put this book together. This book is another rehash attempt at making a buck from off the Cambridges and failed.

Love the book but not the author.
I actually enjoyed this book. The only issue that I have is that the author makes it seem like Catherine and her mother planned the whole thing. You can't make a man fall in love because you are in the same class. That idea was far fetched and it was off putting.Author also seems to enjoy run on sentences. Punctuation can make it break a thought. I can firmly say that I won't buy another book written by Ms. Nicholl.I really enjoyed learning about Catherine as just Catherine. She has lived quite an interesting life and it shows how well rounded she is. Enjoyed hearing from those who knew her way back when.

I wasn't really a big fan of Late until I read this book. I was brought to tears every time Princess Diana was mentioned.

Kate: The Future Queen
Good book! Good interviews with her friends and families. Kate is quite good for Prince William!A lot different than Princess Diana's personality! Strong family background very good for her!In contrast to Diana's difficult childhood and step mother and family!!!Well written! Easy to read!!!
