The Sylvania GROLUX bulb was the first bulb in this country that was designed from the ground up specifically for growing plants yes, even the Hortilux bulb was not originally designed for plants. It has the highest PAR rating meaning it has the highest plant-usable light output of any 400 HPS bulb on the market, in addition to having 30% more blue spectrum than a standard HPS bulb. It is the best bulb you will find in the U.S., far exceding the performance of all other bulbs currently available, including the Hortilux and for less money.NOTE updated 03/2005: Some BGH customers have been experiencing problems with the 400W version of the Grolux bulb. These problems include bulbs not lighting up to full intensity or spectrum, and bulbs working for 2 weeks, then failing. The manufacturer will still honor the full 1 year warranty in the event the bulb fails, but we want to make sure our customers are aware of and consider the higer than normal failure rate we have experienced with these bulbs before making their purchase.

AMAZING results
A friend of mine got a grow light system for a hydroponic indoor garden. The bulb that came with the system was supposed to be pretty good - he paid to have it upgraded from the standard bulb. After his first grow, he had done some research and made the switch to this bulb. It was easy to see that this bulb was WAY brighter than the previous one, but the true test was his garden, which grew much faster and produced much larger fruits. Definitely worth the investment.

Worth the extra $$$ for a bigger yield!
I was afraid I might be wasting my money on this product, but I reasoned that an indoor garden takes so much hard work that it could be worth the investment. After making the switch to this bulb I got about 25-30% more yield - this has made more of a difference than anything else when it comes to maximizing plant growth.
