I happened to find this series of Henry Reed books and absolutely loved them. They are "kids" books, but I recently purchased them to read them as an adult. Henry Reed is a young teen who lives a summer with his Aunt and Uncle. Henry writes about his summer in a journal (not a diary as he points out). Now the journal is less about emotion and feelings and more about storytelling and documenting the events. What's great about Henry Reed is the level of thought that goes into the various schemes - whether to make money or to experiment. It shows a level of imagination in kids that is hard to find these days. Now these schemes have a good goals or intentions, but always result in some sort of roadbumps and humor. The series are a little dated for today's kids, but it's a fun read and provides kids with a great view of life before electronics dominated our lives. It shows how kids can use their imaginations and creativity for fun. I highly recommend this series of books! Review: 7th grade review: Hilarious fun book! - Henry Reed, Inc. is about a boy named Henry Reed who goes to visit his aunt and uncle in a small town called Grover’s Corner. There, he finds a dog he names Agony, and he meets his next door neighbor, Midge Glass, leading him and Midge to set up a business in his family’s old barn. They solve many individual problems over the course of the book, but the overarching problem is that one of Midge’s rabbits escapes, and they are looking for it. Sometimes this gets them in trouble with their grumpy neighbors, the Apples, and sometimes things go wrong, very wrong. I really liked this book because it was really realistic. I was sucked into the story from the first chapter, and I felt like you could feel their excitement when they think they have the rabbit, to their disappointment when he escapes, again. In summary, this is a really good book with lots of funny moments and wonderful main characters. You should read it! -- A.G.E., 7th grade

Some books are never too old to read.
A gift for our 10 year old grandson. I had read this book, that was written 26 years ago, while helping with a Battle of the Books program several years ago. Our grandson enjoyed it as much as I did.

A childhood favorite about a pair of entrepreneurial kids
I wanted to give my granddaughter some books she'd enjoy, and frankly, books for kids today seem to be all about very troubled and insecure children dealing with "interior" problems. I wanted to give her some of the fun books I enjoyed at her age, books that were about making friends, having adventures, thinking up great ideas for having fun, solving problems cleverly, and learning about the wide world. Henry Reed, Inc. is such a book. It's one of those "What could we do?" stories that leaves you with a feeling of possibility. Others will give you a good summary of the story, but I want to tell you WHY this is a good story.

What a great American story
What a great American story! We read the book at the beginning of our summer vacation and it set the style for the summer. The book is all about creativity and raw imagination that kids had to fill the summer with enterpreneurial activities. 70 years ago in rural NJ/PA what was destined to be suburbia by Princeton University, became the setting for this young budding business man. We loved the ideas and the brave decisions that kids made on their own. Great American classic about life in 60s America.

A FANTASTIC BOOK FOR ALL AGES!
One of my all-time favorite books from when I was a young lad, reading my way from A to Z through the school library. This is probably the 20th copy I purchased over the years. I buy one every time I give one away with a recommendation to read. A fantastic book for all ages!
