I was hoping it would be half as good as shown. It was much better!
Such a simple product but it cuts the time drastically. We only make tamales once a year. Previously (without the masa spreader) my wife makes a batch of masa and we both start spreading on the husks for 20 minutes then she makes another batch (repeating this process many times). This time with the masa spreader I did all the spreading and she just made batches of masa (taking a 5 minute break in between batches). I was waiting on her. This simple tool well outperformed my expectations. This was my first time using it and it took me a few dozen times before I could get down the single swipe spreading method. It is still faster if you have to spread out 5 times because all the masa is on the husk with the first stroke. So many times I have been let down by product advertising promises. Not this time. Worked great and very pleased!!! I bought 2 but I was so fast that my wife did not even get to try the other one.I put a towel on the dining table to protect it and keep the cutting board from moving around. I put the white plastic/poly cutting board on top of the towel. The board did not move and behaved as if it was glued to the table. The board allows the spreader to quickly scrape up the excess masa prior to the next husk. It also protects my table from scratches.

What a time saver
My family has been making tamales for years and have using a spoon to spread the masa. This process has been tedious. I was hoping that this product would make tamale process easier and boy I am glad I bought it. If there are any negative reviews on this product the following reasons might be why:1. The masa you’re using may be dry and hard to spread.2. Read the instructions ( which are easy to follow)3. Make sure to put enough masa on one end of the spreader. (roughly 3-4 tamale worth of masa )4. Watch youtube one minute tutorials We were discourage at the train the first two tamales. We Watch the tutorials online which gave great tips. We continued on and started to get the hang of it quickly. The first dozen was a bit thin but we adjusted to the consistency of the masa we wanted in the tamales by the second dozen. While trying to find the consistency of masa we were knocking out so many tamales. It was fun to use and amazed at how even the masa was spreading. The masa spreading on the husk has been something we have not been looking forward to in the past but not anymore. We will definitely be buying more for family members as gifts .

Great Concept
While some people might be able to emulate the product's video with ease, I myself found the learning curve on using this tool too steep.Clearly it works like a charm, because the unit I received is exactly the same as the video.I ordered it to make a large quantity for an event, and after a number of frustrating tries and tweeking of technique, I went back to using my hands. I used a popular brand of prepared tamale masa that comes in a large tub, perhaps the masa needed to be more wet or more dry.Perhaps I'll try again when I have more time for trial and error, or when I make my own dough. My advice is to buy this only if you have the time to experiment with technique and masa.

Not Great
I tried this out but went back to my 6 inch stainless steel drywall knife because it worked so much better than the Tamales Masa Spreader.

People stuck in old ways..
I've read a lot of the reviews. The lower ratings seem to be a lot people stuck in their old ways. That's understandable, you like your old way then stick to it. But to trash this product as a waste of money because you couldn't get the hang of it or didn't want to give it a chance?? Come on people! My mom has made tamales for all my life. I'm almost 40 lol She's always had multiple people help her and they all did it with spoons. I had helped but I could never get the hang of it. I seen the video everyone seen and jumped! I bought it showed her the video. We've had them for 3 almost 4 years. Since then it's been just us two doing the spreading and we FLY through them! Yeah it's a little weird or awkward at first but the more you give it a chance the better you get. I used to dread helping in the past but since I've bought this I haven't minded one bit because it doesn't take as long. It's so quick you don't even have enough time to get a sore back from all the repetitive motion lolGIVE IT A CHANCE! An honest chance! It'll change your tamale making life.
