Great Book
Our young granddaughter just started wearing glasses this year and absolutely loves this book. We had gotten it out at the library but had to purchase a copy as she never wanted it to go back.

Great book even if you don't wear glasses
My 3-year old picked this book out at the library, and she has made me read it every single night since we got it. She doesn't even wear glasses (but I do and I'm sure she will someday.) She loves picking out her favorite pair of glasses on the page that has the zillions of glasses on it, and then I pick out my favorite pair. When we get to the page where the girls are walking to the candy store and can't see very well, I hand her my glasses and let her look at the book through my glasses so she understands why Bobbie can't see with Joanie's glasses on. And the end is super cute! Love this book!

Glamorous!
Do you have a child who needs glasses? Is he or she a bit nervous about getting them? Or, maybe you have a child like Bobbie, a little girl who desperately wants a pair of glasses but doesn't need them. As you can see in my photo, my son would definitely be the one who wants a pair but doesn't need them, while I personally on the other hand need glasses but don't want them. In fact, it was only this year that I actually built up the nerve and went to get an eye exam. The bright and colorful story is based on the author's childhood and her lifelong obsession with eyeglasses. In this book, she takes a situation like getting glasses, that a lot of kids (or grown-ups like me) may get nervous or upset about, and lightens it up with two adorable little characters who take this journey together. Bobbie (Barbara JN's nickname as a child) goes to the eye doctor with her cousin and is enthralled while Joanie tries on frames. Bobbie is desperate to get her own pair of glamorous glasses but is dismayed when the doctor says her vision is perfect. Later, when their mothers aren't looking, the girls trade Joanie's glasses for Bobbie's purse, but after some mishaps they discover that seeing clearly is actually better than looking glamorous! The whimsical illustrations will capture your child's attention and enhance the story by drawing them right in. I love how the book captures a normal childhood situation, and teaches the moral to children that they are perfect just the way they are.

Captures "The Grass is Always Greener" Experience for Kids
I always wanted a retainer. I was envious of those kids who clicked and fiddled their retainers around in their mouths so flippantly, so cool, in middle school.A similar scenario popped up when my son got glasses in kindergarten- other moms quickly began telling me that their children wanted "Super Vision" (as he professed he had) too. However, since then my son has learned wearing glasses is not always so super, like when he lost them in our juniper bushes (yet to be found) or broke them playing basketball."Glamorous Glasses" has best friends and cousins, Bobbie and Joanie, experiencing the classic "grass is always greener" syndrome about the other's fate. Joanie is bummed to learn she needs glasses while Bobbie doesn't feel complete unless she wears them too.Told in an upbeat tone with colorful, fun illustrations, "Glamorous Glasses" is a great read for children 4-9 years old. Whether kids wear glasses or not, they certainly know other kids who do. This book will give them an inside peek at what it's really like- the good, the bad, and definitely the funny. KidFocused.com

Delightful story, whimsical illustrations
Growing up, I hated wearing my glasses. Like Joanie in GLAMOROUS GLASSES, I tried to go without--with similar results. How nice it would have been to have a book like this to show me that glasses can be glamorous, too. A valuable lesson tucked into a fun story with bright playful illustrations.
