So much fun! So little effort!
I love this thing. It was such a fun gift my boyfriend got me. I've never succeeded in growing basil in the winter until now! I love waking up every morning and seeing how much my basil babies have grown!

A great low maintenance hobby with tasty rewards.
I was worried at first because some of the reviews said they couldn't get the light working. But it's working great for me (phew). Sometimes I turn it on manually if I wake up early in the morning but if I forget, it turns on on its own later in the AM.It is now one month since I set up the garden and planted the seeds. I bought a bunch of seeds (mixed lettuce, basil, oregano, cilantro and parsley.) I planted two seeds per foam cube. The instructions for how much enriched water to put in the hydroponic garden for the first time were wrong (it asks you to mix significantly more cups of water than you need to hit the max fill line). So the water was possibly over enriched with vitamins, but I left it as is.80% of the seeds grew! Many cubes had multiple plants. I didn't thin them, but read later that I should have! Oh well. The lettuce is by far the fastest grower. The lettuce leaves are so big that they were covering the other plants from the light, so last week I transferred them into small jars. I also harvested two of the basil leaves this weekend to cook with.Up next: cherry tomatoes! Once they get too big for this hydroponic garden, I'll transfer them out to gradually larger containers that can support the size and weight of the plant. Wish me luck!

Remember, Slow and steady wins the race
(update).. I tried again with Roma tomatoes seeds along side with soil.. the growth with vegebox is much much better than with soil (see updated pic).. fingers crossed to see how it progress further..Growing plants through Hydroponics is a modern and I read the growth of the plants will be faster compared to growing in soil.I Didn't want to spend big in bigger hydroponics system until I try how it works. This vegebox is an good size system for beginners to start learning on how to grow the plants. The package has lot of contents and very good detailed manual explaining on the steps you need to proceed to use this system.Things to note before you start:1. As mentioned in the product manual, one thing I would tell us not every seed is the same. I tried with two variety of seeds and only one of them had shown good germination and other seed is slow, but progressing very slowly.2. Don't worry, be patient and you will see progression3. Keep checking the water level content during germination. My seeds didn't start until 3 days and I had to keep adding water until the sprouts are seen.Good:1. You are growing your own plants and feels really good.2. Compact system can be used in kitchen, living room or any spaceNot good:1. The package could have come with some herb seeds to try.2. The light turns on and off sometimes which is weird, but I think it's adjusting the light. Good to have some indicator on why it's turned off.Lastly, it's not a simple thing to just put seeds and it starts growing as it has some process. Finally, slow and steady wins the race !

How Does My Garden Grow?
This has been an interesting experiment. I purchased this for culinary herbs. House does not have enough windows or space for a conventional set. Outdoor growing has too many extremes to keep a consistent supply. A grow light kit was my best option.I went with this model for the price and the looks, and plant size compared to the big brand name grow kits.I started from seeds purchased on Amazon, and waited patiently to finally move on to the water stage. It took about three weeks for the roots to be long enough to hit the water levels. My cilantro sprouted in about the same relative amount of time as my other seeds. Soaking the cilantro seeds helped. Hurray! So far so good. I think a water indicator and a better light timer would improve this model. A model with more plant holes would be awesome too but I'm greedy. :)IF this works out I can see buying another one to expand on the number of herbs in my kitchen.

Light burned out not working
For a product so expensive, I have only had these lights for about three months, and both of them stopped working …when I pulled it apart it looks like it got burned… I tried to get a hold of customer service to see if I could have a return, but I’m not getting any replies back. It’s very frustrating because my plants rely on these grow lights and many are dying now without the lights.

Really easy to use
Starting to grow a plant from seed, can be difficult at times when starting it directly in soil. This hydroponic system makes it easy to grow plants straight from seed. I bought this so that I can have fresh herbs and lettuce all year round and it comes with the LED light which is needed to grow plants in the winter where I live. In the package, there are step by step directions which makes this a no fail system because they tell you exactly what to do at each point in the plants life and the nutrients needed for optimal growth of the plant are included.

Ok for an advanced or intermediate indoor garden
This is an ok growing box. I would recommend to someone who is used to gardening indoors and knows how to cultivate their seeds. If you are new I would recommend the aero garden! It’s way better and the light timer is more accurate.

Great for beginners or a small little herb garden!
I used this to grow a little herb garden in my kitchen, this photo was after a few weeks. Everything is very straightforward in the directions. Requires a little bit of work in the beginning to germinate the seeds but is very hands off once you plant them! The instructions on how to germinate the seeds are very straightforward, but I found that the method that they used was not always the most effective. It worked for some of the seeds but not all. I just placed the seeds on a damp paper towel in a ziploc bag with some air in it in a dark cabinet and once I started to see some roots would put them in the little sponges and I found this to work much better!Like other reviewers said, the light is very bright.
