German Military Used Mess Kit Flatware - Nesting

1st set through Loggerheadi have to admit that i did not think the "used" german military mess kit was a little pricy compared to other camping flatware out there but once i got them i understood why. this flatware made to last, it it made of heavy gauge "what i think is" stainless (compared to the bendy aluminum and thin stainless flatware out there). it was a little heavier then expected but im not complaining. the set i received was hardly ever used with no scratches or any other blemishes (i think they used the can opener once then put it away) with matching serial numbers. the only weak point i see is the can opener is spot welded to the holder instead of being one piece. i like the mess kit so much im buying another one, if you do buy this you will not be disappointed about the quality or compactness.2nd set through TrueTigerSalesi bought another set through TrueTigerSales i was not as pleased. the set i received was not in the same condition as the 1st set. first the set had miss-mach serial numbers (this is not critical but worth mentioning). second the condition of the set was allot more abused, the can opener was bent out of shape and chipped also there was more pitting and scratches.in all, if you buy this set i would suggest going through loggerhead.

Used may be required by law, yet the set I got had just one slight scratch. The way the utensils slide inside the holder eliminates the annoying nobs or rivets used in other sets to keep them together. These are full sized, usable for cooking, and quality made. In a comparison with two other sets this is the one I chose. My wife chose the Ausonia INOX set that has a lock back, very sharp blade build into the plastic case. The fork and spoon are okay but rather small for me.Just a tip about knives in most sets like this one. They are not very sharp and I don't think they are meant to be. Outdoor people carry a good pocket or hunting knife that will do the job better. You could sharpen the knives yet they don't have any handles so I won't. One slip and....ouch!

Spoon has a pretty significant bend in it, fork is non original thinner steel crappy replacement. I have one that's original and it's clearly different. I understand this being used and maybe scratched up but this is not in "good" condition which is what the ad states.

Did you know that stainless steel can rust? Well it can. It seems that this was probably sitting around in a damp warehouse for a couple decades. It had a few spots that needed cleaning up.That being said this is an excellent mess kit. Durable, compact, versatile, light. Much better than those absurd hobo tools you see here and there.

Having a messkit is fine, but you still need something to help stir your food while it is cooking AND of course, eat it. this set is the coolest idea for flatware I've seen. it has some scrape marks on the spoon (someone with steel teeth?) but other than that, it is like new. it does have some weight to it but, in the long run. it is worth it for the quality.go ahead and order it, you won't be sorry

I already reviewed this item but I figured since I purchased more than one (I have 4 sets now...had to order from more than one vendor due to limited supplies) I thought I would just go ahead and review this one too.Great set. Perfect. Read my other review.If you can find these, buy them. They are worth every penny.

Use in my lunch box every day. Great for camping as well.
