Better than expected
If you are so, so tired of the predominance of Christian rhetoric in the holiday season, this book is for you. I was worried it would paint religion in a negative light, but it did a GREAT job of being balanced, exploring the common plight of a child in a secular household (due to parents of different religions). It was a little verbose for my 3.5 year old, but we will haul it out in future years to help her to understand that the whole world isn't religious and that's ok, but celebrating the season is wonderful too.

Great for non-religious families that want to start their own traditions
Really great book for families that are non-religious but still want to find a reason to celebrate. There was one activity in the book that I loved and is going to become a tradition in our home: getting a living tree (potted) and decorating it with papers that state what we do believe in, such as "I believe in helping others" or "I believe education is important". Really great book for kids that understand why their family isn't religious yet want to find something to celebrate so that they can enjoy the excitement, togetherness, and special traditions as well.

Long but lovely
This book is lovely. I really like the storyline, and that it so fully embraces a belief system and ideals that many people share but are never talked about. It encompassed my family exactly, and my kids loved the story. However, more editing was needed. It is very wordy and long to read. There are a lot of repetitive run-on sentences. But the story is wonderful and the message is great. I would recommend it, despite the writing flaws.

Great Xmas Book for Atheist or Non-Practicing
Love this book! We are atheist and like to celebrate all religions, nice to see a book that takes an inclusive approach. WAY too long though, a good chunk of the story was not necessary and could have been eliminated to make it more readable.

Perfect alternate to all the other Xmas stories
I use this in my classroom. I don't read all of it because there are some parts that are too much for little kids. I have families that don't celebrate Xmas and they appreciate that I tell about other holidays going on at that time of year.

Full pages of words kind of like a small chapter book vs a child's book
Not written in a child friendly way. Full pages of words kind of like a small chapter book vs a child's book. The conversations were not very realistic. Also there are typos in the book. I gave it two stars because I haven't seen anything like this book before but I will be donating it.

Its OK
It was 'ok' The cover is lovely and colourful, the rest of the artowrk is black/white like a colouring book. My wife actually self coloured it before we gave it ot our daughter. The book was a bit preachy / high horsed for my taste, but there isn't a lot of books out there for those that have solstice trees instead of Christmas trees.

I love this book as it teaches many different customs and rituals for The Yuletide season. Great for pagan or non pagan families alike.
