The Grizzly Bear, America's largest, most spectacular predator, was on the brink of extinction in Yellowstone National Park until the 1975 Endangered Species Act made its recovery the biggest success story in conservation history. All wild carnivores need large ecosystems to survive, but when human economic interests, food, or small children encroach into their territory, conflicts between bears and people are inevitable. As we witness the impacts of environmental degradations and human encroachment on the last grizzly habitat in the lower 48, we ponder whether this American wilderness icon still faces extinction or if we will be able to co-exist with it.

All too common, tragic story about loss of important habitat
This breaks my heart. How on earth does someone decide to raise sheep, or cattle, in Grizzly country....and not expect to have bears? you would think it's just common sense. It's just not bears. All animals are losing their habitat, all for GREED! If you're going to live out in the country, expect to have wild animals. I have lived out in the country, since 1996, where there are Cougars,and Coyotes. In all that time I have only lost 2 free range chickens to Coyotes. It doesn't bother me, because they are hungry, and they eat them. It has never happened again. However, neighbor's dogs from a mile away, will come and kill 10 chickens for "fun" and leave them dead in the pasture...I would shoot the dogs, before I would ever shoot a Coyote. (I LOVE to hear them calling at night...especially the pups in the spring) My horse (16.3 NSH) was attacked by a Cougar, she had a large chunk torn out of her rear. (she was the "horse from hell" as my friends and family called her, and rightly so) I believe the cougar got the worst of it. I hauled her to the vet to be euthanized, he said he could fix her right up...and he did! Never had a cougar attack ever again. But I understand that I am living in THEIR house. Anyone that can't understand that, needs to go back to the city. I can't understand why we kill animals in their OWN homes. What will happen when there is NO more habitat for our precious wildlife?

I really loved this story of the Yellowstone Bears' Ecosystem. I could watch it again already! Although a 2007 documentary, I am living near Yellowstone and it is completely up to date. Highly recommended. I already sent the link to my best friend who is coming to Montana to visit me.
