Lindberg 1:48 scale F-86A Sabre

Just what I was looking for. Prompt delivery service. Very pleased with purchase.

Lindberg models, with some very good exceptions (large scale RC destroyer and RC PT boat, as an example), were usually of poor quality as to scale, fit and decals. The re-issues through the new owners are even worse...plastic missing from parts due to poor injection molding and decals you would swear dated from the 60's. However, the lineup does include quite a number of easy to build models of aircraft and animals found few other places. Some models also include unique or fun features like ejection seats that actually work and bombs that can be dropped. Okay, kid stuff ... but we are still kids in many cases. I know I am. The Lindberg Line also included model jet engines, movable control surfaces, retractable landing gear and even the occasional kit jet engine -- a noise maker -- before other brands had such features. Most are suitable only for beginners. They are highly overpriced at current retail. If you can find them at DEEP discounts, they can be fun to build; if for no other reason than nostalgia. Oh, yes, about this F-86 model ... almost forgot while being windy. It is barely okay and suitable only for beginners or those looking for an early F-86A model. Few parts. Okay fit. So-so decals. Cockpit and landing gear very basic. Buy the Revell re-issues if you are looking for a really decent F-86 kit.

I can't believe people who rates or review things based on a accidental purchase like the reviewer before me. Lots of people don't read well before placing an order that they are actually buying a model kit. If one has never put together a model kit, it is obvious that water slide decals are very difficult to apply. On a model kit builder this is totally easy and basically second nature. Amazon should be careful with reviews based on purchasing the wrong product. These reviews are not made on a product that did not met a customer's expectations. I do read them very often and for the most part they are NOT helpful at all to any one, especially potential customers my be deterred by comments from someone who did not read the product description as it should.

This is a skill-level 2 model kit. It is not a finished plane and NOT for young children. Decals are especially difficult to apply.

Easy to paint and assemble. You need to put a small weight in the nose to keep it down for display, Otherwise it sticks up in the air. Only gripe is plane was molded in white plastic, this means in order to paint it you have to use a ton of silver or aluminum paint

First observation "out of the box." Decals for nose art, and wings are only provided for ONE SIDE although instruction show placement for "missing" decals. In "pre-assembly" placement of internal components (cockpit & intake blank plate) difficult since locating features are inadequate. Mating of fuselage halves difficult due to former comment and minimal indexing pins. Wing tip and tail tips warped.

I needed this model because it is of the 1st Sabre built.(real). This model is extremely rare as all other kits available are of updated models, Sabre F's mostly which was the best model made (real). This particular model has an different windscreen which I can use for other models I have, so likely it will be cannibalized. For that I am happy, and this is the place to find it. Amazon, I went searching and you had it.
