Assassin's Creed: Black Flag

Captain Edward Kenway Revealed
I have read a couple other of the Assassin's Creed books by Oliver Bowden and I am pleased with how much the author himself seems to have developed, alongside of the AC world and its characters. I applaud the organic feeling that he brings to Edward, a natural, believable swagger that reflects the character in the game, as well as the sights and sounds of the era. It was absolutely wonderful to get the details of the back story, prior to the events in the game proper. I felt that the author took his time developing the characters, so that by the time we got into the familiar territory of the game setting, I was getting to look at the characters and the events with a new, more in-depth perspective. With this, I feel like I was better able to understand certain aspects of Edward that I didn't while playing the game.I do have a small nitpick and I hope it's not too much of a spoiler to say that this book did feel a little incomplete at the end (similar to the let-down I felt with the very limited perspective of Connor at the end of AC:Forsaken). It seemed to just abruptly end. There is an entire chapter of Edward's life left untold by both the book and the game and I found that a little frustrating, especially given how completely we finally get to see the beginning of Edward's journey in this book. It would have been nice to carry that momentum on and to see the events that happened once Edward returned to England, and to see the kind of work for the Assassin Order Edward did in those later years, before Haytham was born. But all in all, this was a great read and a fine addition to the AC universe.

Very good condition and arrived very quick as well. Got me reading again. Loved the book as much as the game.

James Kidd is my hero
I’m in the area where these events are said to take place so I wanted to revisit the story. This really is a novelization of the game. It’s missing my favorite line so I wonder if that was ad libbed. Nothing egregious in here. I was happy to read the game.

Amazing!
I read this book on and of for a week or so while taking a Caribbean vacation. This book covers from Edward's childhood until the writing of the book itself. The book is an actual item from within the book itself. It was written by Edward Kenway (The main character) as a letter/story to his daughter. If you played the game Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag, then you probably have some questions about what happens pre-game and post-game, this book answers all the questions you probably have about the game. It was a good read and I would recomend this book to any fan of the series or any person that enjoys a good thriller/action book filled with romance and death.

Delightful book full of adventure and Piracy, without even playing the Assassins Creed Black Sails game.
I'm not a game player by any means, but I was drawn to the AC legend of Captain Kenway from a friend's recommendation on historical semi-fiction on piracy and the Caribbean islands. This book will not disappoint but delight and keep you riveted until the end. Maybe a little less graphic description of the killings and a little more description of Kenway's inner romantic, but a quality read, I promise.

Much better than expected
I was a bit hesitant to buy the book, but I had just finished the story line of the game and wanted more. I was not dissapointed. It added so much to the story that wasn't in the book about Edward and how he became a pirate. The end of the book also summed up everything nicely and cleaned up some lingering questions.Very well written. I've played all of the games and think I am going to read the rest of the books.

Dammit Vane!!!
Loved this book. I like how it gave you extra details of Edward growing up and also after he initially returns to his home to settle some unfinished business : )

A serviceable adaptation
As the first book I've read in this series of adaptations of the video games of the same name, it is a respectable retelling of the game's main storyline, with only a small handful of additional insights into the story. The Assassin's Creed games are basically historical fiction, and this tale takes an entertaining look into the golden age of piracy. It's not great literature, and it probably will take most people just as long to play the game's main storyline as it will for them to read the book, but if the games intrigue the reader, or maybe they want to learn a little bit about the era, then this book is worth reading.

Go for it
If you enjoy the video games you will enjoy how these books fill in the backstory. Good read.
