Great product
I have used General Finishes in the past and love how well it goes on. No sanding furniture, or cabinets before applying. However I purchased the “Ash Gray” hoping it would be the color that’s on the can. It’s definitely not even close. It’s solid Gray. So if you are looking for a Gray stain this is perfect. But know it’s not going to look like the picture on the can. I still chose to rate it 5 stars. Like I said it’s a great product, very easy to use.

First time user and works great!
I wasn't sure what I was getting into when I purchased this product. I did a very light sand with a random piece of sand paper. Wiped down them down and off to painting/staining. This color only needed a few coats. I little goes a LONG way. Order less than you think. You can always order more. I believe I have an entire 1/2 gallon left out of the gallon and I did all of my bottom kitchen cabinets.Make sure to put it on light each time and let it dry. A paint brush will leave strokes, use a roller as much as possible.I did put a top coat on and it covered fine. Without much change to the Ash Gray color. The color is a gray/blue. I like it, but it is not what I pictured from what was given in the examples of this purchase.

Beware: This is pure gray; there is NO BROWN COLOR in it
I bought this to try to approximate another piece of wooden furniture that was a dark walnut color with some gray in it. The furniture piece I wanted to match was very close to the color shown on the label and the website, which is a brown-gray. The actual gel stain is pure gray with no hint of brown. The brown I suppose is supposed to come from the natural color of the wood. I wish this had been made clear to me. A waste of money.

Ash gray color isn’t accurate
This product is easy to use, doesn’t drip however the ash gray does show up gray vs the brownish color that is shown on the label and in the examples via photos

Great product!
This stuff is great! I have honey oak cupboards and ordered the ash gray because the pictures showed the color that I would want it to be. We started painting and it was not the color I intended, but it was a happy accident because it ended up matching great with the other colors we had in the kitchen. It went on really easy and the finish is beautiful. We cleaned the cupboards really well with TSP cleaner and painted over top. No sanding needed!

Color was WAY off!
I bought the ash gray to redo a table top. The color was just straight gray. I expected this to be an actual ashy gray but instead it looked no different than the regular gray. I tried wiping, sanding, letting it dry, extra coats, thin coats, etc. It still looked terrible and not all the color as advertised. I would probably use this if I was using a darker color but not the ash gray or lighter colors.

Quality product
I stripped the kitchen cabinets but could not get the factory finish off 100%. I was in despair however I discovered gel stain. This stuff saved my bacon. I re-sealed the oak cabinets, and applied this product over the top with a terry sponge applicator. It took some practice to refine the technique, but I managed to achieve a rich, semi-transparent finish. Wood prep;2-coats;topcoat, it was a multi- stage process, but worth the labor as I saved 40k the pro wanted to do the job

Color is different in person
So they offer many options of colors and I’ve used them before and been very happy… Just disappointed this time around. They had a gray and an ash gray option. I chose the ash gray because it had more of a brownish tone that would match more closely to my current furniture that I had in the room as well. When I opened the can the paint inside looked more blue gray then an ash gray color. Seems more closer to the gray option that I didn’t choose. I wanna head and painted my older desk just to test it out before painting the other furniture that I would be more concerned about. And then and in the end it does look more like a blue gray then a brown gray… So just so you know the ash gray does not look anything like the advertisement
