380260 Autoranging Digital Insulation Tester

This is a nice meter. It seems as well built as my old HD Beckman DMM, and that was the best there was in build quality..nicer than the F brand in my opinion. Mine came with a plastic case, a set of leads, and an extra negative lead that has an alligator clip. That's handy, because it lets me test in mid air. Just clip one wire, hold the other wire against the positive lead with one hand, hold the meter with the other and press the button. I thought I'd use the locking function more than I do, but it's actually easier to just hold the button. That lets you hold the lead and release the test button, which auto drains the voltage off the wires. If you just keep the leads hot, you can test, but with good and long wires, there's enough capacitance to hold a charge on the lines and give you an annoying shock. All in all, very happy. If you don't need more than 2000 MOhm at 1kV, this is a very good deal. No issue with battery drain, and not sure how you would, as the main switch seems to turn off power to everything.

Purchased this for what I thought was a one time use, needed a 1000v megohmmeter to test cable insulation. Since receiving this product I was also able to retire my older multimeter. I did a lot of research prior to my purchase since I needed the tool for 1 job therefore not wanting to spend too much. This tool has all the features as other units costing $100's more, I am very happy with this purchase.

I bought this tester and 4 months after the insulation testing function just stopped working. The rest of the options still working good, but the most important one not. Really sad because that happened suddenly while I was using the tester in one of my projects.

Better than expected. I would have given it 5 stars, but the owner's manual is not very good and the screws holding the back in place are difficult to remove and reinstall. (I don't use it enough to leave the batteries in the unit for long periods of inactivity.) It should be easier to install and remove the batteries.

Great product!

Cheap to buy, expensive to calibrate

As an electrical contractor we had a project that required testing every cable within the residence. This meter performed like some of the more expensive units that I have used in the past. It was easy to handle and uncomplicated to use. I have had three projects where I had to used this meter. It's already paid for itself.

First unit purchased: did not work. Similar replacement unit gave erroneous readings. I had to buy Fluke 1507 megohmeter to check insulation status of floor-heat cables. What is impressive is Amazon's return policy which I would give 5 stars.
