Itsy Bitsy

SPOILERS. Great beginning, good middle, what the endig?
Okay for me this movie started out strong. I like where it was going with the goddess spider theme, and how there was only one big ol' antagonist spider roaming the house throughout the film. I also LOVED that they primarily used practical effects. I am so tired of saturated CG effects where you can tell that the creature is not really there. I also loved specific subtle tense moments, such as the above shot in the bathroom where the mother was taking pills, and the spider was simply laying in the bathtub. It didn't move, but it really was an effective creepy moment. I also thought for the overall performances were really decent. SPOILERS, However, there were times in which the dialog could be too short/ could have been more developed to develop the characters, and their relationships with eachother. Also, the one scene that killed the reality for me was when the little girl was bit straight through her freaking hand, and she basically said something as effective as "ow". Really? The girl moaned and whinned a little after the spider bit her hand????? In reality that child would have been crying and screaming at the top of her lungs. Also, I did not care for the drawn out ending with the mother MAJOR SPOILER ALERT.... You as the audience are waiting for her to die. As the audience, you figure this was somehow going to kill the spider- relating to sacrifice (lord knows that "sacrifice" was mentioned several times throughout the film). No, the mother basically beats the sh-t out of the spider and that is it. She also survives, which then why did they draw out her supposed death scene, and why for heaven sake, did they have the little dead son reach out his hands to her? I swear to gosh, for a split second I forgot I was watching a horror film, and I thought I was watching a Life Time film.Overall, It is not a bad film, even the ending is not horrible, I just felt they could have done better, and related the ending more to the theme of sacrifice. I also loved that this movie did not rely primarily on gore and jump scares. The gore is actually pretty minimal, and there was genuine intensity from certain moment build ups.On some level I wish that Hollywood would make more giant spider films. The few that are out there are either to make fun of the genre (like "Eight Legged Freaks") or very B-rated kind of films. This film is not a B-rating, it is a very good watch, and overall decent story set up. However, it did lack some bite.

Fantastic Spider Horror
Itsy Bitsy (2019). Of all the best spider horror movies--Tarantula, Earth Vs the Spider, Kingdom of the Spiders, Arachnophobia, and Eight-Legged Freaks--Itsy Bitsy is perhaps the darkest, going straight for the throat, with a heaping helping of terror and fear. Itsy Bitsy takes the time to introduce us to the main characters, and gives us enough to actually start caring. The main characters bring a ton of non-spider related trauma with them, so, you know, lots of catharsis. What's more, character development takes place via character relationships, thus ratcheting up the tension. Everyone here has established their inner drive and their connection to other characters. I don't find spiders scary at all; they're my favorite animals. So I would love to see a swarm of tarantulas or a giant spider running amok. But by the conclusion of Itsy Bitsy, because the characters have been established, now there are actual stakes. This is what creates fear, tension, and scares. The end had me on the edge of my seat! This movie also deserves great praise for the visual effects, which are largely practical. The spider models are beautiful, realistic, and ferocious. I'm pretty sure there's even some stop-motion! When computers are used, it seems largely in the service of smoothing out the mechanical prop, or transposing it in different locations. This is where CGI is most effective, I believe, in unison with practical effects, not in place of them, particularly in horror movies. Really, visually, this movie is an utter breath of fresh air. Elizabeth Roberts, Arman Darbo, and Chloe Perrin make an excellent family trio, deeply fractured, troubled, and traumatized, trying to pick up the pieces of their lives and forge ahead. Denise Crosby, security chief Tasha Yar from Star Trek: TNG, excels as the wise, local sherif, and, of course, Bruce Davison brings instant weary strength. I'm always looking for good spider horror, and Itsy Bitsy brings it. Really pleased with this movie.

....didn't come down the water pipe.
Not your typical spider. Not a really original story, but done much better than I expected. Bruce Davison (Walter Clark) is a long time collector of what one would say are off beat items, the last one he shouldn’t have collected. He is a bit of a sage, and also needs in-home care. Kara is hired, and brings her two kids, and they have a house on Clark’s property in which to reside. But Kara brings baggage with her, which is handled in a mature manner. But it is clear she is running from her problems. The spider is actually done very well. The story slowly unfolds, and most of the action is in the latter part of the movie. What is nice about the movie is that the spider is often implied rather than thrown out at the audience. That adds to the menace. But yes, the spider gets its share of screen time near the end. This was certainly an entertaining movie to watch. Not Oscar caliber, but decent acting. I do not know why they didn’t end the movie as Kara and her kids drove away. A person would have to be almost brain dead not to know what was next, as it was clearly set up. So that last minute was not needed. Maybe not quite 4 stars, but 3 would be doing the movie a disservice.

Boring, not scary
Bought this because it was recommended in the "you bought this, you may want this" and the reviews were fairly decent. Well I watched it, and it was pretty boring. Only good part was the last 5 minutes.

scared well
I was personally scared to death by this movie! However I am arachniphobic. Other people thought the spider in it looked a little fake. However I thought it was a good watch and did enjoy it terribly.

Great movie for those suffering from arachnophobia. Has its moments of hair raising adventures...both for the character and the spiders!
