Ingratitude, Rebellion, and Redemption
This novel, first published in 1926, deals with issues similar to those of our current society.Chester and Eleanor Thornton are enjoying a good, prosperous life. They are shocked when they discover that their children do not share their moral values. Chester, in an effort to change their rebellious children, takes his family to his childhood family farm in the forests of Vermont to live away from the influence of their worldly friends. Things seem to be improving until the oldest daughter Betty runs away. What will it take to bring their prodigal daughter home?As in all of Grace Livingston Hill's books, the message of salvation and redemption through the blood of Jesus Christ is the dominant theme.I recommend this book to those who like books with a Christian message and a clean romance.

Good story
Good! Not one of my favorites, but a good wholesome story. Not much romance. And even after she is saved, she claims she is “unclean”. Seemed Mrs. Hill was in a hurry to finish and didn’t do the best she could. But I really enjoyed the plot line and characters, seeing how they grow through their changes in life. Well worth the read.

Wonderful book!
I have almost all of Grace Livingston Hill' s books, but this has to be one of my favorites. It's a tale of a young girl who lives her life in a reckless, ungodly way and believes life owes her a living. How she comes to realize differently makes a great story.

A Parent's Dream Solution
Most parents have daydreamed about grabbing their kids and taking them somewhere else to get them away from whatever bad influence has their attention at the moment, but it's just not possible. In this book, these parents make it happen, or rather, the father makes it happen. Finding that all his children are sliding down that slippery slope to ruin, he and his wife pack up a moving van and the family car, grab the kids and head for his old family home that's out in the middle of nowhere. This book is pure Grace Livingston Hill and the plot is slightly contrived, the characters and beliefs fairly old-fashioned and the emphasis on God pronounced, but it's still an entertaining story. If you don't like Christian themes, or the beliefs of yesteryear, give it a pass, but GLH fans will love it, of course.

Gradually the younger brothers and sisters accepted the change and enjoyed being a part of a family that loved God
Grace Livingston Hill's books have an ongoing theme of God's goodness and mercy. In The Prodigal Girl, the oldest daughter along with her siblings, had no belief in God and to be fair, had not been taught in that way. As the Father realized the mistakes he had made, he took action by isolating the family in the farmhouse where he grew up. Gradually the younger brothers and sisters accepted the change and enjoyed being a part of a family that loved God. Not so the oldest daughter, Betty, who at all costs had to get away and through very bad experiences, finally found her way back to the family. She was a first-class brat and unlikeable but, as in most of Hill's books, was redeemed. Love to read her books.

Timeless
This story is set in the 1920's, but situations this family deal with could just as easily be today. The kids have run a muck. Teenage rebellion, messy situations, consequences, these parents have their hands full.Another wonderful book by my favorite author. I love the way She weaves the gospel message, and lyrics of hymns into her story.

Grace Livingston Hill is a wonderful author. It was through her book "By Way of the Silverthorns" that I first learned what being "saved" meant. I have read all of her books and "The Prodigal Girl" is one of my favorites. I always look to see what year the book was originally published as she sets the stories in actual time. I have learned much about the history and culture of the time periods she writes in. She is a beautiful writer.

Loved it wish lives could be turned around like this.
Take the time to read a book that could have been written about today's people you will not regret it
