Love this fan!
We replaced an existing fan with this unit because the light is much better. The old fan was very decorative but the light was so poor that it was useless. Also, it had standard blades that when not in use filled up a lot of the ceiling area and collected a lot of dust. This fan has a very bright light that is highly functional and the blades hide away when not in use. No hanging out there collecting dust. No need to clean them monthly. And it is really fun to watch the blades "mgically' deploy themselves. Fan works very well and is very quiet.Another advantage is many 54 inch standard fans end up out of balance and jitter even on lower speeds making an irritating sound. This fan is fully balanced, fully assembled from the factory and is perfect at all speeds.

A Clever Way to Conceal a Ceiling Fan
The media could not be loaded. This fan is a great option for where having a ceiling fan can be handy but not regularly used.Starting with the fan: The blades retract and conceal above the light fixture when the fan is off, and extend via centrifugal force when the fan is activated. The blades are mechanically connected to ensure that blade deployment/retraction happens in a balanced fashion. Operation is whisper quiet, no noticeable buzzing and very little blade-generated wind noise. If there were any drawbacks with the fan, it would be that the design prevents the fan from being reversible. Additionally, while the fan does move an adequate amount of air, it doesn't seem to move anywhere near as much as a similarly sized fixed blade design.Installation wasn't any more difficult than other brands of fans. The remote control receiver was a minor bit of hassle being tucked between the electrical box and bracket. This is one area for potential design improvement. It is slightly heavier to hoist this fan up into position, owing to the fan blades and control mechanism being already installed.Operation using wireless remote works as expected. The receiver does remember the last settings, therefore if the fan/lights were on prior to powering off from a wall switch, it will resume with the same settings when the wall switch is turned on again. One caveat is that there is nearly a two second delay for the light to come back on when powered this way. Since I don't plan on using the fan with the light fixture off, I chose to bypass the wireless remote and connect the light directly to the incoming hot wire (be sure to cap off the unused wire from the receiver output). In this arrangement, the light fixture is controlled solely by the wall switch and the lights are back to near instant on. A side note: If your installation has the appropriate wall controls (light switch and a fan motor control) this unit can be installed without the use of the wireless remote.Build quality generally seems good, though I was slightly disappointed that the light diffuser was plastic. This ultimately may be for the better, as it's less susceptible to breakage. I was shipped the wrong colorway (Fanaway's fault, not Amazon), but didn't find out about this until after it was installed (someone else ordered it). The "alternate" colorway does work with the décor, but I'm undecided whether I really care for the clear plastic blades, as they seem to convey "cheap" versus a pigmented color. If you have a location that a fan could occasionally come in handy, like a kitchen or an exercise room, but don't want the look of an unused ceiling fan looming over the room, this is a great solution.

This is so cool!!
Love it! Purchased in February and installed yesterday. Exceeded expectations!! We live in Lake Tahoe, which has recently had hot summers. Never needed a fan before, but now we sometimes do. Purchased this for over the bed in a small bedroom with an 8' ceiling height. Absolutely did not want a 42" fan over the bed all year and this one is wonderfully discreet. In fact, when it opens its blades, it NEVER looks like the pictures with the blades out that are in the sales images. Yay! When they are in motion, all you see is motion. And there is NO SOUND, so ideal for over the bed. The only bummer is that there's no reverse, but honestly all we seek is moving air in the bedroom because bear activity doesn't allow us to sleep with the bedroom slider fully open. My guy did a more complex install, putting the light on our existing overhead light dimmer switch that has a dimmer and on/off remote that we keep attached to the headboard. The dimmer works BETTER than on our previous ceiling fixture! You'll note that the other retractable fan lights that we looked at didn't work with a "real" dimmer switch; instead, they had three separate light settings and always started out at the brightest. We didn't want that and are quite pleased. The remote control that came with the light will be used only for the fan and thus kept in a nightstand drawer for most of the year. We are estatic! Thank you!

Generally I like it, but I have some problems with it
Overall, a good fan that is very quiet and bigger than I expected it would be. You may want to triple check the size. The other issue is the shroud that covers the hole in the ceiling is way smaller than the old one it replaced and I can see part of the hole. Another problem to deal with.I had an electrician install this since the cost of the fan was pretty high. He checked the line and noted that the power was good. I say this because my fan seems to shut itself off after about 6 or 7 hours. I don't know what the problem is. Some people say this could happen if the power line is not clean. Some will say it could be another fan remove nearby. I don't think either of these are the case since the electrician checked the line and I don't live in an apartment building. Maybe it overheats. I don't know.I am not happy about that, but I am not going to replace this. I spent a lot of money for the fan and to have it installed and I am not paying more to get it down and sent back and then another one put back. I really don't use the fan a lot anyway since I prefer to keep the AC at a comfortable level. It just irks me because this is not a cheapo fan at well over $450 dollars plus and I have no clue why it shuts off. I have seen some reports online that it happens with other people too.
